    No connection to internet though Windows claims to be 'Connected'


    I have an odd error on my Windows 10 (Version 1607- Build 14393.576) machine - I am on a LAN connection to my router, and the network status is 'Network Internet Access' but I don't have any connection to the internet through Outlook, Firefox and Edge (there may be others too, but those are the most visible.

    I have taken the following steps:

    ping router - response received
    ping BBC - Home - response received
    tracert google.com - trace complete (though the first one, occasionally two hops time out
    ifconfig /release /dnsflush /renew
    reset ip stack with netsh
    done a system scan with sfc /scannow, no issues found
    attempted to connect to my local router with firefox, no connection
    switched off AVG firewall and antivirus - no change

    Also, I have discovered that notifications from the Facebook for Windows app come through, but I can't see any of the content.

    I have a MacBook and this is able to connect to the internet without issue, and also a 'Live' version of Ubuntu Linux on the same desktop as Win10 works without issue.

    Does anyone have any ideas / solutions / diagnostics, I'm at the end of my tether but don't particularly want to do another clean install.

    I have Microsoft Lumia 650 dual sim, where in wi fi connection shows connected nut no internet access and also shows wrong ip address of network

    No connection to internet though Windows claims to be 'Connected'

    Often times Windows will default the WiFi connection to that of Public rather that a Private connection. Correcting that would fix the issue if in fact the connection is Public.

    You should still check that your network is a Private rather than Public network. Open Settings - Network and Internet, what does network status show there?

    On the same Settings page at the bottom you will see Network reset. When all else fails this is often your best option at solving the issue.

    I found that one a few hours ago, and while that was successful, it was only so for a few minutes. I am suspecting a windows issue which should be solved by a re-install.
