Windows 10: No Desktop after Windows 10 2004 update (debugged and solved)

So I updated to the 2004 update this morning and was greeted by a lack of desktop and a seemingly frozen "Personalized Settings (Not Responding)" window.

Tried uninstalling the update/etc with no success, downloaded it and re-installed it with no success.

Finally broke out Sysinternals Process Monitor to see what explorer.exe was doing.

Turns out it was indexing a network share from my FreeNAS box as part of some offline file caching function that I don't even have enabled.

I have over 100GB of executables/zip files in here, but even with 10gigE and 700MB/sec reads, this was going to take ages.

I killed my network connection and my desktop loaded right up.

I believe this is because I redirected my Windows 10 "Downloads" library to the network share since I didn't feel like dedicating 100GB of local SSD space to stale installers/archives.

Figured I'd post up here in case anyone else runs into that issue with this update.

New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

keep in mind, as of recently, the FCU is installed on 5% of devices roughly.....

Windows 10 Creators Update Available for Download

Not sure about the games you listed but no probs with Dirt Rally and benching heavensward-bench here for me. I'm going to test 3DMark too in a few minutes.
