Windows 10: No HD Resolution, Can't Acess Start Menu, Critical Error : Nvidia

I used to have Windows 7. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 weeks ago. It was only until after I installed it that I found out about the Nvidia driver errors. I have the MSI GT 610 installed. The first thing I notice on my home screen is the infamous screen resolution problem. I could only raise it to 1600x1200, I used to run on full HD 1920x1080. The second thing I noticed was there was a strange empty Shell dialouge box that says, "Critical Error" on the top frame. I can move it but when I try to close it the screen goes gray and I have to press ESC a bunch to get back to the Log In screen to sign back in, and even then the box is still there. Also, I cannot access the Start Menu, Recents, or Search Bar. My shortcuts on the start bar I can though. I can hover over them and press them but they do nothing. Today I set the BIOS to boot onboard GPU and removed the 610. It booted and installed updates but now there are large black bars on the side of the screen, and they stay that way even with a higher resolution which still isnt HD. Now instead of 1600x1200 as the highest, it's 2048x1536. Wtf? When I try to use the right-click menu on the desktop, it appears but when I press an app it (basically) says "There is no program associated with this action." How the hell can an install go so badly in so many ways?

I'm having the same problem with the Critical Error involving the Start Menu. I can't get to the start menu, the action center, and just about nothing on my task bar works.

Has anyone found a resolution to this problem ?

I generally do clean installs to minimize messes coming from an upgrade.

Have you tried to download and install the drivers directly from NVidia to see if that would fix the issue?

 

I did not try this, but I will and will get back to you. I reinserted my GPU and I got HD back, but for some reason it shows that I'm running two monitors. Not a current problem though. Everything else the same. Driver is downloading now.

 

I just tried the newest driver. I went to run it and, "The extended attributes are inconsistent." I ran it in Administrator too. Still no. I did try to uninstall GeForce Experience and all other drivers a little while back, but it never seemed to uninstall. All the files are still there and the program is still there too. So I don't know what that did or if it affected the installation.
