No/Intermittent connection: missing proxies or unable to detect proxy

Hello, posting 2 threads in 1 day feels great...

Recently my internet on my desktop has been extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY slow, and lately has been cutting out altogether, even thought it says it is connected all the time. Diagnostics reveal "one or more Network Protocols are missing on this computer" or "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings". I've trawled so many threads and tried so many different things but nothing is helping. I am writing this post from my laptop which is immediately next to my desktop and has no problem connecting; neither does my phone, and no one else in the house is experiencing issues, so I am positive it's an internal issue with my desktop.

I connect via a cable through one of those plug socket internet devices but I also have a wifi adapter - no matter which I use I have the exact same problem so I am sure it's not a fault with these items nor their drivers.

I thought this issue may have coincided with me installing Avast, which I uninstalled today, and it helped for a bit but it's gone back to its usual self. I am unable to do system restore because I didn't know that system protection had been turned off until today (so I have no points to restore to) and honestly refuse to reinstall windows, there must be a way to fix this without having to do that!!

Any help will be sincerely appreciated!! Thanks! Save me!!

Edit: it's truly intermittent. for most of yesterday my internet was totally normal and then it stopped working again like the flick of a switch...
edit: there is truly no correlation or immediate obvious cause to this. it doesn't happen when i do anything in particular, it doesn't happen at any particular time of day, it doesn't seem to happen for any reason at all. restarting, reinstalling drivers, disabling and enabling, rebooting the router, nothing makes any difference...i'm so exasperated

    :)

  2. EAP-PEAP Authentication without Certificate - Is it fixed in Simbian Anna

@Selbst: Are you sure that your problem is not proxy settings rather than the certificate? Nokia phones, unlike Android and iPhone OS phones, are unable to download proxy settings automatically.

If your network requires a proxy, you won't be able to connect until you enter the proxy address manually in your phone. This was the case for me.

Try this. On your laptop, start Firefox (not IE) and confirm that your have internet connection. Go to Tools/Options/Network/Settings. If "no proxy" is selected, your network does not require a proxy. If "auto-detect" is selected, change it to "no proxy"
and try to connect. If you are unable to connect, your network requires a proxy.

You can contact your network support for the proxy, or you can try this web page:

Can't play YouTube and CNN on N95 8GB's video center

Google is missing a setting for Proxy , clear proxy ( don't use proxy ) if you still cant' play video

N95 or Real Player is suck , why real player can't auto detect the current network ~ ~!

No/Intermittent connection: missing proxies or unable to detect proxy

    First fix:
window button-setting- network and internet-proxy and turn automatic detect on
    second fix: reboot your router
third fix:do a pc refresh, only takes 30 min or so
    hopefully that helps.

    hi, thanks for your post
the automatic detect setting was already turned on, rebooting my router didn't fix anything, and what do you mean by pc refresh? i am unwilling to reinstall windows as i will lose all my software and it took me a very long time to download a lot of it..probably won't be able to get it back since my internet is broken..

reinstall ur driver, by going into device manager - network adapter- choose the one that u are using- right click and uninstall-reboot ur pc- then go back to network adapter- double click on the one that u are using- go to power management tab - untick the first box.

and for pc refresh go into settings - update and recovery- recovery- look for window refresh- if its not there then idk. Also pc refresh will not reinstall ur window.

hi, this didn't help my issue. also:

tl;dr "refreshing" is not an option in windows 10 i can only reinstall windows and lose all my apps. this is a very new install of windows so i don't believe that will help..

Ok So I think your having the same problem I'm having. Sounds the same but it's a year later and if you didn't find a fix you've probably thrown it out the window. So for anyone that may stumble upon this. Maybe you still have hope. This same problem happened when I did a system update. I searched far and wide and then I came across something that got my attention. It may not be the same problem but it's a simple fix and worth a try. You have to adjust the speed by going to Network and Sharing Center ---> Change adapter settings-----> Select and right click and choose Properties-----> Select Configure----> Advance Tab---->Scroll down to "Speed and Duplex"---> Select 100Mbps Half Duplex. If it doesn't fix the problem maybe try another speed, anything besides the automatic setting. Hopefully it works. GL!
