No internet connection once every two days

    Hello everyone,

I am currently facing a network issue at my home network. I have a Cisco X1000 (Linksys) router which is dropping out like once every two days. Looks like my DHCP isn't working properly since I am getting a 169 IP-address and no other devices (smartphones and tablets) can connect either. The only resolution is to reset the router by plugging off from the AC power.

My DHCP is set to automatic. Could anyone help me please? I have added a picture of my basic network setup as an attachment. Also, I would like to know what's the difference between a Hostname and a Devicename.

windows 10 drops part of internet connection every two days

    Hi Andrea,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    1. Is he using wireless or wired connection?

    2. Any error message is he getting?

I suggest you to check the status of network adapter in the device manager.

    a. Press Windows key +X and select Device Manager.

    b. Right-click the device and click Properties.
    c. On the General tab of the device Properties dialog box
    d. Check the status of the device and let us know

If there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it, then it indicates that there are some issues with it.

Please follow the below methods and check the issue:

    Method 1:Network Troubleshooter

An automated troubleshooter is a tool that can find and automatically fix some problems with your computer. These troubleshooters aren't designed to fix every problem, but they're a useful tool to try because they can often save you time and effort.
Follow the steps to run the Network troubleshooter:

    a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

    b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

    c. Now type Network Troubleshooter in the search option.

    d. Click on Network troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

    Method 2:
    Step 1:
This issue can also be caused due to Corrupted network card drivers/device.
Uninstall the Network Card device from the Device Manager.
    a. Press “Windows key + W” from your keyboard.

    b. Then type “Device Manager” without quotes in the search box and hit enter.

    c. Expand Network Adaptor and then right click on Network Card.

    d. Click on Uninstall and restart the computer.

    Step 2:

Once you have uninstalled the Device then go ahead and uninstall the device driver from programs list in Control Panel.

    a. Press “Windows key + W” from your keyboard.

    b. Then type " Programs" this will open up the installed program list.

    c. Now uninstall the Network Card Device drivers from this program list.

    Step 3:

After uninstalling the Device Drivers from the program list, install the latest device drivers from the manufacturer website.
You can follow the link mentioned below to download the driver.
    Drivers & Software

    Method 3:

Temporarily disable antivirus or security software.

Temporarily disable antivirus software or any security software installed on your computer.

Warning: Security software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should
re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

You can also follow the link mentioned below for more information.

  3. windows 10 drops part of internet connection every two days

I have been struggling with this problem since upgrading to Windows 10. Microsoft solution person said it's my adapters and the adapter manufacturer's problem. I don't think so.

Since upgrading from Windows 7, I have downloaded new drivers from Realtek for ethernet and from dell for wireless.

My internet connection will work fine on both adapters for a couple of days. Then, for no reason, something happens. I frequently log in remotely on gotomypc. All of a sudden, I can't get to the computer. When I return to my desktop, the notification
panel and the control panel indicate i have an internet connection but... neither chrome, nor outlook, nor edge nor gotomypc can connect to the internet.

This is when it gets weird: I can ping google with no packet loss from command line, if i open chrome and i enter info in search bar, google delivers search results and i can go to a place or two on the internet but not most. For example, i entered the
address of a google developers change your dns page and it went there. Browser won't load much else. Search results, yes. Other stuff no.

I reboot and all is fine for a couple of days.

    This is driving me nuts.

    Help please.

Are you trying to use Ethernet or Wireless is the first that we need to know. If wifi, run "netsh wlan show all > wlan.txt" (Just the command in a Command Window, no quotes. Make sure that you are in your Downloads or Document folder. Otherwise it will save the file in either System32 or Root). Once you get the txt file, then post it as a text box. No user or system info is placed into that file.

Hello Bro67, thanks for your reply. It's for both: Ethernet and wifi. The SSID that is giving problems has the name Cisco. (I didn't know how to insert a text box, I selected 'Paste from Word' in the Quicky reply box.

Your problem is that you are either too far away, or the signal has been turned down on those two Access Points.

As you can see with the signal strength, it is showing really low for any that your computer is trying to pick up a signal.

No internet connection once every two days

Bad Gateway maybe. All in one devices can sometimes be bad.

Is it your own Gateway or rented from your provider? If your own, you may have to swap out.

I use a Cisco RV320 behind the Arris NVG-589 that AT&T uses for their U-Verse service. The 589 is a decent unit for the average user. But for what I do, I have to use a Enterprise type setup.
