Windows 10: No Internet Connections, No Local WiFi

I had an open thread which I have now abandoned, as it had become too confused due to my complete lack of knowledge about what the problems really were and how to solve them. Now that I have at least a somewhat improved knowledge of what does work and does not, herewith that information in the hope that the true experts here can assist me in restoring my computer.

1. Our local WiFi, through a router served by our DSL modem, works on my wife's computer. On my computer, I can sort of log on to that WiFi system, in that the WiFi 2 system (our router) says that I am connected, but it does not work.

2. I can connect to the WiFi from the DSL modem, again sort of: As I see when trying to log on to WiFi 2, it shows no Internet.

3. Ethernet shows as an active network when I plug an Ethernet cable from the router into the computer, but there is no Internet connection.

My personal feeling is that recovering the Internet connection is the more important of the two problems for this reason: I have Macrium Reflect full backup from the Monday before I lost both the WiFi and Internet connections, along with two interim backups for the two days just before the loss. I cannot do anything with Macrium if I am not on the Internet. (There are some odd problems with Macrium itself; the details are not important, and if getting connected does not fix them, can install a new copy.)

Given my lack of knowledge about this, I don't even know that I cannot get on-line without fixing the WiFi problem, so my theory that getting on-line is the more important of the problems may be impossible to achieve.

Can't connect to the Internet, local connection only??

Hi guys,

I have a laptop here that refuses to connect to the internet over Wifi. Ethernet works fine but once I try to connect wifi it only connects as a local network without the internet.

I have tried a few different things like reinstalling the drivers, changing a few different settings in the registry but with out any luck.

Can anyone have any ideas? i have the flu at the moment and I just cant think straight and I need this fixed and out the door asap.

The laptop is running windows Vista 32

When will the wifi connectivity problems be solved?


OK, so the Windows 10 engineers bollixed up the wifi connectivity part of the operating system. Everybody knows that by now. It seems they are making some progress in resolving it. Now, instead of seeing "Secured, No Internet" on your list of wifi connections, you see "Connected, Secured" EXCEPT no webpages will load. So you really aren't connected. It does seem to be a step in the right direction. Does anybody know when they plan on a full and complete repair of this screw up of epic proportions?

 

How to share internet connection from desktop to wifi through router?

Hey guys,
can you help me set up home network?
I have a D-Link Dir-300 router, desktop pc with two network cards on board and notebook with wifi. And internet through local network vpn.

I want to connect internet to my desktop pc (cause it's faster then dir-300 connection) and then to dir-300 from second lan port for wifi sharing.
And use wifi on notebook.

How should i set up this?
