Windows 10: No internet on laptop, after turning on the hotspot to share ethernet internet to other...

I've recently updated to the latest Windows 10 version, and the hotspot stopped working as intended. When it's off, the internet is working just fine, everything loads, etc. but when I turn it on and connect a device to it, on the device the internet is working but on the laptop that is sharing the internet, nothing loads. It does not show any errors or anything. Then I upgraded to windows 11 and the issue still persists.

Mobile Hotspot Not Sharing Internet

I run windows 10 Anniversary edition with dual booted linux mint.

Until now the mobile hotspot button worked fine sharing my ethernet connection to all my connected devices.

Randomly it stopped working.

Now the hotspot turns on fine, ethernet works but no shared device gets internet access. I made no changes to my computer, it just stopped working.

To fix it I started a hotspot using cmd but even that doesnt share internet, i can connect to the hotspot in both cases and connected devices show up as well, only internet doesnt work.

Please help.

 

Internet Connection Sharing and mobile hotspot. Windows 10 CU 1703

I have a problem with my network sharing.

Let me explain first. The dorm I live in only has wifi. WPA2- Enterprise security. I am able to connect with this network with my laptop.

Because I want to have multiple ethernet connections in my dorm ( For my ps3, smart tv, Blu-Ray player) I shared my wifi network and with an ethernet out port on my laptop I connected my laptop to a router. So the connection is ethernet port on laptop to Internet port on my router. From there I connected all my devices to the router.
- This worked! Until now ..

I was watching netflix on my smart tv. Laptop was on, the internet LED on my router was on, like it is normally. And suddenly my movie started buffering and netflix gave an error that it was disconnected from the internet. I restarted my laptop, router, tv, everything! And after about 30 minutes of figuring out what the problem was I noticed that when I share my network and have the build in windows hotspot disabled. The shared connection does not reach my router and my tv has no internet. Then I turned the hotspot on. No devices connected. And suddely my router got internet signal again.

- Very strange. Now I cannot share my wifi network over laptop ethernet port to my router without having the build in windows hotspot turned on. This isnt that big of a problem. Except, The hotspot keeps turning itself off every 5 mins.

And the weirdest thing is, I never had this problem before. I never even used the windows hotspot before.

I tried reinstalling drivers, restarting router, Resetting router. There is no way I can undo this.

Please help me. I think it is a bug in windows 10.

Hi,

You may share your internet connection with other devices over Wi-Fi by turning your laptop into a mobile hotspot.

Here's how:

• Press the Windows + I keys from the keyboard to launch Settings.
  
• Go to Network & Internet, then Mobile Hotspot.
  
• Choose the internet connection you want to share from the Share my Internet connection
  from field.
  
• Select Edit, enter a new network name and password, then click
  Save.
  
• Turn ON the Share my Internet connection with other devices option.
  

After following the steps above, you may now connect your other devices by going to the Wi-Fi settings on that device, finding and selecting the network name, and entering the password.
