  1. No keyboard after sleep

I resurrected my old HP DV5-1044CA. I did a fresh Windows 10 install. Strangely when the laptop sleeps or if I put it to sleep with the power button or by closing the lid, I can wake it with the keyboard or power button and use the keyboard to enter my PIN but after that the keyboard no longer works. I have to restart to get the keyboard working again.
Anyone have thoughts on how to resolve this?

    :)

  2. Windows 10, keyboard not working after sleeping, no drivers in device management

Thanks for replying No keyboard after sleep :)

    Both keyboards are PS/2.

To clarify, when the machine woke from sleep, it was still plugged into the same keyboard as before it went to sleep. I only tried swapping the keyboard out later, after the first restart.

Keyboard and mouse cannot wake the computer after sleep

I did run troubleshooting for power in System and Security, and it detected that the time before display goes to sleep is too long (and that it was fixed). But the keyboard still cannot wake the pc after sleep.

However, during the time that the on/off button of the display is white when going into sleep (then having a black screen), the keyboard is able to wake the pc. Only when the on/off button of the display is orange, the keyboard cannot wake the pc anymore.

    No keyboard after sleep

likely a driver issue ,hp support only shows Vista and win7 driver for you laptop ..so I would say start with Device manager .and the keyboard drives and see if win10 will look for a updated driver ... but I could be wrong of course, it could bean issue with power options, and you may have to just stop using the sleep options

  5. Thanks for the response Caper.
The original driver was the standard Microsoft PS2 keyboard driver.
The current driver is Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard with HP QLB.
The same issue persists with either driver.

not sure what else to add ,but it sure sounds like a driver issue

  7. Thanks again Caper.
I found quite a few posts on different sites regarding the same issue on W7, W8 and the tech preview and final versions of W10 but none of the resolutions work for me.
Funny the keyboard remains active for a few seconds after the pin is entered. I guess I'll just disable sleep for now. If a driver issue it's unlikely there will be a new one released anytime soon.

Incidentally, I observed a very similar behavior on my desktop two days ago. The desktop machine was sleeping. I hit spacebar on my keyboard to wake it up and it woke up successfully. But after that the keyboard had powered off. I was unable to type in my password.

Rebooting the machine "fixed" the problem. Since then the issue has not reappeared.

  10. I've tried to update the driver on every device in the system. I disabled USB selective suspend and PCI express link state power management as well as unchecking allow the computer to turn off this device to save power on each of the Root Hubs. Nothing changes the behaviour, the keyboard still stops working after the computer wakes from sleep.
This is an example of one of the discussions I found regarding this same issue. Keyboard not working after waking laptop from sleep (build 10041) : Windows10

  12. Yep I did, I didn't expect SFC to find anything since it was a clean install of W10.

  13. No keyboard after sleep

I forgot to add that the BIOS was already at the last HP release of F.38 and there are no related settings in BIOS to adjust.
