Windows 10: No longer recognizes headset plugged in/out

My Dell laptop no longer recognizes when I plug in our pull out the headset. The speakers on the laptop are used instead of the headset. This used to work until some update from Microsoft. I cannot isolate which "update" caused the issue. The only way I can get my headset to now work is to power cycle my computer and leave the headset plugged in. I have tried reloading the driver to no avail.


It appears the Microsoft updates are progressively destroying the usefulness of my computer. The previous issue still has not been resolved with the laptop screen or the external monitor going blank periodically. These both used to work.

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

JABRA 30 II Headset No Longer Recognized

I am using a JABRA 30 II headset and have been for a few years. I am on Windows 10. Suddenly the device playback no longer works through the headset. It is no longer an option to be selected as a playback device. Meanwhile, the recording (mic) works
fine and remains an option.

I have the latest firmware for the device according to JABRA. I have rebooted. I have removed the device in CONTROL PANEL -> DEVICES AND PRINTERS and then plugged it in again so it would be recognized. None of this has worked.

 

Computer won't recognize headset microphone


If it has a "TRRS" plug, it will require an adapter for PC's. PC's (most) require TRS type plugs, one for the mic and another for the headset.
