No MIDI signals being received over USB-MIDI

    Hi there,

I'm having issues with USB-MIDI connectivity. I have connected 2 USB-MIDI devices a Casio CDP-120 and an Arturia Minilab to my laptop, and no MIDI signals are being received. Both devices show up in Device Manager, but neither are recognised by Ableton Live nor a MIDI monitor I installed. No MIDI signals are being received.

It is not a problem with the devices themselves, as they work fine on my older laptop. I have tried numerous ways of connecting the devices on both available USB ports and through a USB hub to no avail. I have tried deleting some USB-MIDI drivers as I hear Windows only supports up to 10, which hasn't fixed the problem. I have also updated the BIOS to version 1.1.7.

Traditional 5-pin DIN MIDI does work; using an audio interface, Ableton Live and the MIDI monitor can receive MIDI signals from a DeepMind 12 connected over 5-pin DIN. However, no MIDI is received when the DeepMind 12 is plugged in over USB. Ableton Live can receive MIDI from an external computer keyboard plugged in over USB using the Computer MIDI Keyboard feature, which is interesting.

I would appreciate any support. Thank you!
    My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 7506 2 in 1 i5-1135g7, 12gb memory, 515gb SSD

    :)

  2. Problems receiving MIDI in Ableton Live 9

Hello! Hoping to get some help with a strange problem. I'm running Live 9 on Windows 10 and can't get Ableton to receive MIDI from my midi interface.

    My setup:
Audio - Motu Ultralite mk3 Hybrid
    Midi - Motu Express 128

The weird part is that using the mme/DirectX audio driver allows midi to be received and routed within Ableton. But using the Ultralite's ASIO driver prevents Ableton from receiving midi. No light from the MIDI in track indicator-- just nothing. I understand that ASIO isn't supposed to effect anything to do with MIDI, but unfortunately in my case it seems to interfere.

I tried switching to the ASIO4All driver but similar to the mme/DirectX driver that prevents me from using more than a stereo pair as input and output on my audio interface. I've tried reinstalling drivers without any luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  3. USB MIDI Audio Interface (M-Audio USB MIDI device) - not working in certain applications for MIDI Input.

    I'm using Windows 10 Pro.

    1) I have a MIDI keyboard connected to my desktop via a M-Audio USB MIDI Interface.

    2) This device has worked before fine, but all-of-a-sudden, one of the apps I use to write music (Famitracker) suddenly will not open the MIDI Input. It's the same error I get when another application is using the MIDI controller at the same time - maybe
there is some service or application running in the background that is using the MIDI controller? If so, I can't figure out what it would be.

    3) MIDI-OX (the software used to test MIDI input/output) also will not open the MIDI controller input. It says Unknown external error.

    4) However, Finale V 25 detects the MIDI controller and I am able to use my MIDI keyboard just fine.

I would appreciate any help in this regard.

MIDI KEYBOARD NOT DETECTED BY PIANOMARVEL INSTRUCTION SITE

    • Have you already checked if the device shows in the Device Manager?
Yes. Just checked and both MIDI keyboards are listed.

    • Have you tried testing the device to a different PC and the same issue occurs?
Yes....I just hooked up a Dell Pro Windows 10 laptop purchased late last year. 00325-80685-21181-AAOEM. I plugged in the AKM320 MIDI keyboard - (no drivers needed) The system sounded but did not show the AKM320 in Device Manager. I did the same with the
ACORN Masterkey 49 with the same results. I did open the Piano Marvel site and try to get a recognition of either keyboard, and non were even listed. They did list on my main computer, but did not light up the site indicator for a MIDI signal being received
    as already reported.

Also: I activated a Windows 7 computer here and plugged in the AKM320 MIDI. The device appeared in "game controllers" I installed another DAW in that computer- Cake Walk and was able to get the computer and DAW to read my signals from the AKM keypad. I
went to the Piano Marvel site but the same outcome occurred- the site did not read my signals from the MIDI key board.

    • Are you getting any error messages when connecting the device to your PC?
When I turn on both piano MIDI keyboards without the DAW running, no error or notice appears--but a connection sound does occur. However when I turn on either keyboard
while the DAW is running, I get a notice that a MIDI device has been added.

    • What build and version of Windows 10 are you using?
2017 Windows 10. I do have an ID number...****************- installed in 2016

I really appreciate your interest in this issue and am glad to check any other areas for you. I have tried everything with no success. One bit of info....There are two programs I've tried to use both of which have a midi keyboard detection in their programs.
Sight Reading Practice - Piano Music Sight-Reading Practice and Piano Marvel both do not read my midi keyboards. (But my DAW reads both and plays notes) Also a program called MIDI OX was installed by Piano Marvel's tech and the program detected both MIDI's. I am glad to pay for
any consult should it become necessary.

    Thanks again,

    MTM
