Windows 10: No more administrator account, seemingly impossible to bypass.

Earlier, my administrator account disappeared. I am genuinely baffled and worried, as I have not been able to find a method of recovering the administrator access.Along the way, I must have done something in one of my fixes to of have done this, but I don't know where, all I know is, there is no administrator. This doesn't change the fact that an admin is needed to allow certain functions, such as changing a user's status, or making changes via the command prompt. Should my Microsoft Account have administrator privileges?

I just finished reinstalling Windows 10 (Creator version) and decided to have the installation process create a Microsoft Account instead of bypassing that step like I have on other laptops in the past and creating a local account later. After the install I went to Accounts in the settings and saw that the Microsoft Account was listed as an Administrator. I always thought the main user should only have standard privs for security purposes. Thoughts? Should I create a new admin account and try and change the MSA to a standard account?

 

Administrative password bypass

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.

To install any new apps/software to the system we need an administrator privilege. If you are in a Local account and wants to install any applications/software you need an administrator password. However, we can change the account type from Local account to
Admin account.

I suggest you to change the account type to administrator account by following the steps below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key + X.
• Select Control Panel.
• Click on User accounts.
• Under make changes to your account, click on Manage another account.
• Select the account which you want to change.
• Now click on change the account type.
• Select Administrator and click on Change the Account Type to
  change the account type to administrator account.
• Now check if you are able to perform the above tasks.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
