  1. No more bitlocker drive options left refer to your UEFI settings etc

Hello, i have purchased a laptop/ tablet from an auction, it has the above message when i boot up. I cannot boot from usb as the legacy option is not available. I am presuming the bitlocker encryption is forcing the flash memory to always boot the windows manager first, this has a tick next to it in the bios. Is there anyway i can remove the encryption i have no key or password. I think if i can get the encryption off it may let me boot to usb with a bootable uefi created memory stick with gpt partition. Also the recovery option fails as well, so at the moment the laptop/tablet is useless, ive been to the manufacturers forum where the information was useless. Bitlocker was created by Microsoft so i thought this would be a good starting point.

    Regards Martin.

    :)

File back up to bitlockered external drive

    Thanks John.

By trial and error the solution is,

    • Set the file back up to the desired external USB drive, Back up using file history.
    • Run backup to completion.
    • Dismount, (Remove) the drive used.
    • Remount (Plug in) the drive used for the file back up (Steps 1&2) and encrypt using Bitlocker.
Note you can only encrypt drives using some versions of Windows (Pro for eg not Home)

    • Once the external drive has been encrypted dismount.
    • Remount the drive, go to the file back up option, Open, Settings, Backup,
      Back up using file history
      .
    • The drive should now still be visible and has been encrypted.
    • Accessing the drive will be dependant on how it was set up in Bitlocker,
Open with this PC, password, pin code
      etc.
    • Repeat file back up as in the first two steps.

    Hope this helps someone else.
