Say goodbye to ransomware with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Yes, ransomware will be a thing of the past with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update thanks to something called "Controlled Folder Access" in Windows Defender.

Windows 10 will hide your important files from ransomware soon | The Verge

These are protections for your files against ransomware at the kernel and Windows Defender level. Rest easy, your files are safe.

    About damn time Microsoft!

  3. Windows 10 Ransomware protection

Hi W and thanks for reaching out. My name is Joseph. I'm an independent advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

For a better understanding of the "Ransomware Protection" feature, please read the article below.

Windows 10 includes a Ransomware Protection feature that is comprised of two components; Controlled Folder Access and Ransomware Data Recovery.

Controlled Folder Access will allow you to specify certain folders that you wish to monitor for and block changes to the files contained in them. This will block all programs, but the ones you allow, from making any modifications to the files within monitored
folders, which will protect them from being encrypted by ransomware.

The other component is Ransomware Data Recovery, which will automatically sync your common data folders with your Microsoft OneDrive account in order to back up your files. Ransomware victims with this feature enabled can then use OneDrive to recover their
files if they ever become encrypted by ransomware.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes.

    Thank you!
