No network connectivity after upgrade to win 10 from win 7

I just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 now the machine refuses to show the network adapters! Both adapters show in the device manager as running OK. I have tried to reinstall the drivers - win 10 says the latest driver is installed. I tried removing the adapters by disabling them in the BIOS - rebooting into win 10 and uninstalling the driver - enabling the adapters - rebooting into windows 10 hoping it would find them and reinstall them - but still no luck. I had forgotten to remove a Cisco VPN driver before I did the upgrade; however the Cisco driver is no longer installed (not sure why the upgrade didn't detect the problem). Any suggestions on how I should proceed, I need to save my installed software. I am on the Win 7 boot of the system now, so the adapters do work Thanks

    :)

    Network connection Issue

I had the same issue after my upgrade from Windows 7 Pro on my HP Z220 CMT x64.

I downloaded the latest drivers from both Intel and HP. Tried several uninstall/re-install the drivers/restart, but network would not connect. After many hours of trying every suggested solution, I reverted to Win 7 and my network connection (thankfully)
    worked again.

Interesting thing... After the initial upgrade to Win 10 everything seemed to be working fine and I used the system all day. It wasn't until the next day that I saw the network connection had failed - sometime over night. In my Win 7 environment, I did
have a nightly Windows backup scheduled to a network drive, and I ask it to wake the system if necessary. I don't believe that is supported exactly in Win 10 and now that I'm back on Win 7 those settings are no longer there.

Sounds as though you set up Win10 as dual boot - not an updagrade to your exisitng Win7 install. Is that correct?

I am on the Win 7 boot of the system now, so the adapters do work

You could try a Refresh, use SFC & DISM, or re-install

The only one almost guaranteed to help is a re-install. It only takes a little longer (not including the download time)

    Refresh Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Try downloading the 10.0.130 ISO again and using that to install.

Current Win10 ISO from the Insiders page:
Download Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO - Microsoft Windows

Decide how you want to install the Preview release
See: Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums
    -- or --
See: Windows 10 - Dual Boot with Windows 7 or Windows 8 - Windows 10 Forums

Read through the tutorials and ask questions first. It's always easier to answer a question than correct a wrong step.

kinda - I had two win 7 systems - so I chose to upgrade one of them to win 10 - both win 7 systems were operating correctly - so I thought I would try out Windows 10

    Yes

Thanks - I have the code on DVD - it is a big machine and took hours to upgrade so I was looking better way - I don't want to lose the installed programs which are working correctly (the ones that I tried) anyway - I was wondering if I was missing some command that would simply refresh the devices and hook them in

The only one almost guaranteed to help is a re-install. It only takes a little longer (not including the download time)

  6. Thanks for the clarification.

ry SFC followed by DISM - if that doesn't help, there's an additional DISM cmd that can use the DVD as a source (I'm not sure if it's in the tutorial, but I have it if you need it - try the command in the tut, then if necessary ..... )

Let me know if either report any integrity errors when they finish (it will be on screen in the Cmd window)

Then try the Refresh path - again you can use the DVD you created as the Recovery source.

If at any point the HW starts working, you can stop trying other methods - you don't have to do every method *Wink

thanks for the commands - I ran all three of the DISM commands you posted - all ran without error
I also rand the SFC command which also ran successfully. I believe I have a permission problem which is causing the problem - mmc fails and aborts unceremoniously when trying to load component services - the event log shows :
Faulting application name: mmc.exe, version: 10.0.10130.0, time stamp: 0x5560365e
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.10130.0, time stamp: 0x55603349
    Exception code: 0xc0000409
    Fault offset: 0x0000000000090e50
    Faulting process id: 0x1bd0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d0a48253359e80
    Faulting application path: C:\windows\system32\mmc.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
    Report Id: 56de8d41-a697-4421-bb1a-72fcd89e430b
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:

so I feel that is part of the problem - I haven't looked up the exception code 0xc0000409 yet - but it is funny the diagnostics are not showing a problem.

Thanks for the commands - it is hard to know all the diagnostic commands anymore and tough to do the research without the unit on the network.

The problem is an enigma - but I like puzzles - I will find it.

That's the attitude! Good luck. Frustrating, though.

  9. Puzzle me this rag-a-muffin:

See if there is anything in Event viewer around the date that the devices stopped appearing.

You can also look in c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log to see if something else was installed around the date they stopped appearing.

Shotgun approach ... roll back the drivers most recently installed / updated - one at a time and restart.
As always - stop if the devices reappear - then you know what caused the issue.

I'd start with the NVidia driver.

You've already attempted to resolve the issue by focusing on the network adapter drivers - switch gears and see if there might be a driver conflict with a different driver.

    Good luck ...

Several permission issues in %AppData%\Local prevented mmc>component services from loading successfully – it does not appear the upgrade to Win 10 solved the permission errors in this area of the system. No errors or warnings were issued by the Win 10 upgrade which I thought was intriguing since almost all applications that could run without the network appeared to run correctly (with the exception of the Cisco VPN Client which ran correctly on previous enterprise builds of Win 10). I’m just going to load it fresh and figure out what I need to do to support the Cisco VPN connectivity! It is unfortunate that the three DISM and SFC /scannow ran to completion without reporting any issues or errors! Better diagnostics from Microsoft would be appreciated!

  12. I had the same issue. the issue is with cisco vpn software client. After reading serveral forums, tried the following:
    1. revert the installation back to windows 8.1 (update and recovery > revert to windows 8.1)
    2. in windows 8.1, uninstall cisco vpn client and cisco anyconnect client software
    3. upgrade to windows 10.

This fixed the issue. Wireless network connections shows up and works as expected with no issues. There were no other complications from the upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10

  13. No network connectivity after upgrade to win 10 from win 7

Following installation of windows 10 from Windows 7 my PC refused to connect to the Internet despite finding my wifi router. Two hours with a Microsoft level one techie failed to resolve the problem until a level 2 technician asked me to completely uninstall AVG 2015 and then reboot the computer. On restart I was connected! Subsequently I have reinstalled AVG Internet security and everything so far is working properly.
