  1. No option to select to encrypt Entire drive

I got a brand new laptop and when did a clean install of Windows 10 v1903 BitLocker did not ask to select the option to encrypt used or entire drive.
It automatically encrypts only the Used Space only.

The laptop came with a Samsung NVMe SSD drive if that matters.

Why does BitLocker encryption defaults to encrypting Used Space only?

Does it have to do anything with the type of SSD drive or the newest version of Windows 10?

    :)

  2. BitLocker encrypting Used or Entire space?

I usually been reinstalling Win10 to get rid of the so called "clutter" on my system to make it more fresh and such.
Regarding BitLocker, I always select to encrypt the entire drive as opposed to encrypting used spaced only.
The entire drive option takes literally 9 hours to encrypt and complete.
So I was thinking, is it wise to always select Encrypt Used Space Only whenever I reinstall in the future or is that option only for new machines and drives?

I just don't have the time to wait for my entire drive to be encrypted as I need to work on my programs and during the encryption process it just slows my system down.

When encrypting the used space only, new and existing data will be encrypted?
    Am I correct?

So when I reinstall Windows 10 the next time around, should I select encrypt Used Space Only?

    Just want to save time.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

  3. external drive and encryption?

    This question is two-fold.

First I would like an external enclosure that is rugged and shock resistant (static electricity and the like, being winter and all) for a 3.5inch SATA drive.
Barring that, an external drive with the above. What would you guys recommend?

Also, I was wondering, is there a tool to encrypt the entire hard drive, but that does NOT ask to format said encrypted disk? I tried TrueCrypt, and last time I did, it asked me to format the drive because it was not recognized. I know there are alternatives, but I forgot their names. Price is of no concern if it is able to do so. any suggestions? Does Windows not show "drive must be formatted" on TrueCrypt drives anymore?

Best way would be if I plug in the drive, it asks for password automatically or something...

  4. No option to select to encrypt Entire drive

BitLocker Encryption Process? Used or Entire Disk Space?

    Hello everyone,

Since choosing to encrypt the ENTIRE drive with BitLocker which can take very long time to complete, can I encrypt the Used Disk Space only when re-installing Windows 10?
When there is a need for me to reinstall Windows, here is how I do it.

    1. Boot from USB to boot the Windows or Windows 10 OS setup process
    2. Then, I wipe every drive/partition under the Advanced Page section were you can format or delete all the drives listed. I usually take all the drives listed and DELETE them until I see the only one listed as Unallocated Space. That's it. Everything else is deleted.

Then I continue on with the Windows installation.

Now, this is NOT a new drive. This has been used a lot to reinstall Windows. But I always DELETE ALL the listed drives that I see until the Unallocated Disk is listed only.

So, my question is this. Will I still need to encrypt the entire drive or will encrypting the Used Space Only will be OK since I deleted all the drives and started from scratch when reinstalling Windows 10?
Or does encrypting the Used Space Only applies when getting a new physical disk or PC?

Because the issue I want to avoid the next time I reinstall Windows (in case I get bit from malware or something like that), is to wait 10 hours to encrypt the whole drive again...

Now its too late, because I already began the entire disk encryption with BitLocker.

But I do want to avoid waiting in case I do have to reinstall Windows 10 again.
