  1. No overwrite prompt displayed when copying multiple folders from phone to PC

Hello,I wanted to make a backup of the files on my phone. I've done this once before, so I assumed that another copy would be relatively quick, as most of the files already exist on my PC. However, I find that Windows 11 22H2 does not ask me what to do with the pre-existing files, it only asks me what to do with the folders, overwriting the pre-existing files without question. The "Hide folder merge conflicts" checkbox is not in checked state. If I copy the existing files on the PC to another folder, the prompt appears. What setting should be changed? Thanks!

    :)

Copying down file folders with names and growing dates

    Hi Ryan,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To create multiple folders of same name with progressive dates, I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works for you.

    • Open File Explorer and navigate to the location where you want the folders to be created.
    • On the address bar, where the folder path is displayed, erase the folder path and type
CMD to open a Command Prompt window.
    • Once the Command Prompt window opens, copy paste the following command and hit Enter:

for %d in (2019.6.17 Job Progress Pics, 2019.6.18 Job Progress Pics, 2019.6.19 Job Progress Pics, 2019.6.20 Job Progress Pics, etc) do mkdir %d

      Note:

Replace ‘etc’ with rest of the dates for the month. (Eg: ‘2019.6.X Job Progress Pics’ where X is the date)

    • Exit Command Prompt and see if multiple folders are created with the progressive dates on the preferred location.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

Can't copy and paste multiple folders

Hey all. I'm having problems copying multiple folders from an external disk to my laptop (running WIndows 10). The folders contain mp3 files, they're not especially large in size or anything. I've tried the usual dragging and dropping, using right click
to copy and paste, etc. Nothing happens. I CAN, however, copy multiple files. Just not multiple folders. I've never had this problem on my old pc (running Windows 7) so I'm just baffled. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

No overwrite prompt displayed when copying multiple folders from phone to PC

Copy file from download to documents does not prompt to overwrite file, instead creates file with "copy" in name

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand that you don’t receive the overwrite file pop-up when you copy a file from one location to another, we will look into this for you. However, we would like to know if the issue occurs only with the folders that are synced to OneDrive.

As you have already tried to Restore File Explorer to defaults, I suggest you to uncheck the option folder merge conflicts option in File Explorer options and see if that makes any difference. Follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + E, to open
      File Explorer
      .
    2. Now, click on View and click on
      Options
      .
    3. Select View tab from the
      Folder Options
      window.
    4. Under Advanced settings, scroll down and uncheck the option
      Hide folder merge conflicts.
    5. Click on Apply and OK.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.
