Windows 10: No Password prompt, can only restart by holding down button

Discus and support No Password prompt, can only restart by holding down button in Windows Hello & Lockscreen to solve the problem; I’m hoping someone can help me because I’m so incredibly bummed about my laptop right now.     I’m hoping someone can help me because I’m so incredibly bummed about my laptop right now. I didn’t a reset where I deleted all my files a few days ago, downloaded the basics and when I tried to restart it today after getting some errors, it shows me the screen with the time and date, but when I try to click forward it blurs out the screen and doesn’t bring the password prompt up at all. The restart and ease of access icons are present and not greyed out, but they are not usable. I cannot restart with the icon, I have to hold down the power button itself. I have already done the thing where yo

    You can reset your password following the next steps:

    • Reboot your computer / Turn your computer on.
    • Hold down the Shift key at the start of the boot process to enable the GNU GRUB boot menu (if it does not show)
    • Press ESC at the GNU GRUB prompt.
    • Press e for edit.
    • Use the Arrow keys to highlight the line that begins with kernel and press the e key.
    • Go to the very end of the line and add rw init=/bin/bash
    • Press Enter and then press b to boot your system.
    • Your system will boot up to a passwordless root shell.
    • Type in passwd yourusername
    • Set your new password.
    • Restart your system.

    I suggest you to perform Safe Mode with Networking and check if you’re able to login using your Microsoft account.

    Method 1: Safe mode.

    Please follow below steps:


      • Click on power button at left bottom corner, press and hold
        Shift key and click on Restart.

      • Click on Troubleshoot.

      • Click on Advanced options.

      • Click on Startup Settings.

      • Click on Restart.

      • Login to Microsoft Account and create a new administrator account.
    If you’re not able to login using Microsoft account then refer to below steps and check if it helps.

    Method 2:
    Activate Inbuilt Administrator Account.

    Follow the below steps:


      • Click on power button at left bottom corner, press and hold
        Shift key and click on Restart.

      • Click on Troubleshoot.

      • Click on Advanced options.

      • Click on Command Prompt and enter following command.

        net user Administrator /active:yes
    Now reboot your system and login to inbuilt admin account and try to reset password for other account. Once you reset password login to other account and to deactivate inbuilt admin account enter following command in elevated command prompt.

    net user Administrator /active:no

    Going to local login broke ability login without password prompt

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    We understand how you feel about the situation. We're sorry for the trouble.

    1) Have you set up same password for both Microsoft account and local account?

    You can sign in either with Microsoft account or local account. I suggest you to change the password for both the accounts and check if it helps.

    1) Open settings and click on accounts.

    2) Click on Your email and accounts.

    3) Now in the right pane click on Manage my Microsoft account. It will redirect to your Microsoft account page.

    4) here click on change password and try to sign in again.

    You can also change password by clicking on Sign-in options in the left pane and choose change password in the right pane.

    If the issue still persists, you can follow the below steps.

    Please follow below steps:


      • Click on power button at left bottom corner, press and hold
        Shift key and click on Restart.

      • Click on Troubleshoot.

      • Click on Advanced options.

      • Click on Startup Settings.

      • Click on Restart.

      • Login to Microsoft Account and create a new administrator account.
    If you’re not able to login using Microsoft account then refer to below steps and check if it helps.
