Windows 10: No sound after new update

After updating windows to the newest version there's suddenly no sound. There's still sound when I connect my headphones to the monitor, but when I connect them to my PC there's none.

This has happened before when I updated my drivers, and I fixed it by returning to the older drivers. However, windows won't let me do that after the newest update. I have tried the troubleshooting tool but that doesn't work either.

I'll be happy to hear any ideas for fixing this problem.

sound trouble after new update

Hi,

Your sound driver might not have been configured correctly after the update.

We suggest that you update the device driver. You can do that by following these steps:

• 
  Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
  
• 
  Expand the category where your device is located, then right-click on the name of your device, and select Update Driver Software.
  
• 
  Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  

If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If updating the device driver doesn't work, we suggest that you reinstall the driver:

• 
  Open Device Manager.
  
• 
  Right-click on the name of the device.
  
• 
  Select Uninstall.
  
• 
  Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
  

We also suggest that you run a System File Check scan to check for system file corruption. You can check the procedure here: System

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

sound distorted after windows 10 anniversary upgrade

This is where I'm at on my HP laptop with Windows 10 and the Anniversary update.

I completed step #3 "hardware and sound" but that took me to an option for "sound, speakers." There was no "properties" as step #4 suggests. I selected "sound, speakers" and then found "properties." After selecting "properties" there was no "enhancements
tab" as step #5 suggests.

Regardless, I then uninstalled the realtek audio driver. I noticed that when I did this without restarting my laptop that the sound was now tinny, but not distorted as it was previously. After restarting, the sound was again full, yet distorted.

Realtek still shows in my programs list, though it shows no memory is used.
