  1. No Sound After Sleep Mode

    Hello

I have an Acer Nitro 5 laptop that I'd had since December 2019. I am running Win10, Version 1909 OS build 18363.815. Whenever this laptop is wakened from sleep mode, sound no longer plays from the speakers or from headphones. If I go into sound settings, under where it says "master volume" it fluctuates as if sound is playing--but no sound can be heard coming from the machine even though all volume related settings are set to 100. This issue started to occur roughly a week to a week and a half ago, and I originally thought it was my headphones; but after swapping headphones, the problem persisted--it even persisted without headphones plugged in. The only solution I have found to solve this issue is to restart the computer; however, once the computer enters sleep mode again and is reawakened, sound ceases to play.

To that end, I have tried the following to fix the issue but have had no success:

    • Did a factory reset of the laptop, restoring everything to manufacture defaults
    • Awakened computer from sleep with and without headphones plugged in
    • Downloaded and installed all available Windows updates
    • Ran audio troublershooter--it did not identify any issues
    • Went into services.msc and disabled, re-enabled, and restarted all audio processes I could identify and set them to automatic
    • Gone into Device Manager and uninstalled, reinstalled, disabled, enabled, and updated Realtek audio--the one that came with the PC
    • Gone into sound properties and set speakers as default--even disabled and re-enabled speakers from this window.
    • Gone into sound properties and set communication to none
    • Disabled and re-enabled audio enhancements
    • Disabled and re-enabled Realtek and associated WaveMaxx in start-up processes
    • Changed sleep and power settings, disabling fast startup and enabling hibernate settings

I have spent a good part of my day crawling through online guides and forums trying to resolve this issue and have found nothing that gives a permanent fix. Again, the only thing I have found that provides a fix is restarting or shutting down the pc and this fix is only temporary. Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

  3. sleep mode

    Hi disgruntledWC,

There could be other settings on your computer that triggers your computer to go on sleep even though the sleep settings is set to never. To ensure that the sleep and display settings are properly set, I suggest that you look into the Advanced Power Settings.
    Follow these steps:

    • Open Control Panel and click Power Options.
    • On your preferred plan, click Change plan settings.
    • Click advanced power settings.
    • Expand Sleep option, and make sure to set the following:
    Sleep after : Never

    Hibernate after : Never

    5. Click Apply, then OK.

Please check also the screen saver option.

    • Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
    • Click Screen saver settings.
    • Set your Screen saver to None.
    • Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, please observe if your computer still goes to sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Regards.
