  1. No sound after upgrading to Windows 10 and computer wont shut down

I'm having a myriad of issues after upgrading to Windows 10. I'll list them below along with what i've already done to resolve:

    - Computer won't shut down.

Someone told me to disable something with the Gigabyte process on the Motherboard, didn't work. I click on shut down and the computer restarts instead.

    - No sound except EXTREMELY low sound on headphones.

I've already tried installing the Windows 10 Realtek HD drivers but nothing seems to work. Eventually I somehow got the headphones to play sounds but is is incredibly low even fully maxed out. All devices show that they are "working" correctly. Also, when I test it, I can see the green bar moving as if sound is playing, but no sound in any speakers / headphones I hook to the computer comes out.

    - Less important issue but the "search" bar in the bottom doesnt ever return any results, ever. It just sits there indefinitely.

Any help would be really appreciated. The biggest issue is the sound, by far.

    :)

This "low sound" is yet another infuriating issue after a clean install of Win 10.
After trying just about everything I can find via Google, I've only effected a modest improvement.
scannow shows nothing; all plugs are tight in their sockets and all the other offered solutions do nothing.
I've updated with the very latest Realtek drivers but Device Manager still shows the drivers are M/soft's dated 09/07/2015. This I believe is another M/soft "improvement" whereby THEY decide which peripheral drivers thou shalt use.
My aforementioned modest improvement has come about through SoundBlaster and cranking up all their volume settings.
As so many others have reported, Win 10 system sounds are OK; it's any other audio output which is very low.
Does NE1 know of a fix for this please?
    P.S. today's updates for Win 10 haven't fixed it.

I've been struggling with this same issue (on and off) since upgrading to 10 and Don's point of deleting the Realtek driver is what worked for me - not just uninstalling it but disabling it altogether and rebooting. I did have an automatic Windows update occur when rebooting (not sure that had any effect) but now in Device Manager, a Realtek High Definition Audio Device is no longer listed and all is well. Thanks, Don!

<> Don't know I can offer "serious" help but to recap on my "solved" post and there's a lot of "ifs" here:-
    • If you have an old Realtek sound card [mine was 5 years old] then a Win10 upgrade might leave you with very low sound output. I did a clean install and got this whereas when I first upgraded my existing Win7 there wasn't a problem.
    • I believe that now M/soft have issued an update to Win10 which allows you to be somewhat selective in what drivers you install.
    • So, if your problem is no/low sound and Device Manager tells you you have Realtek drivers installed - uninstall the sound card from Device Manager and delete any Realtek folders on your C:\.
    • If you're confident enough then delete any other instances of Realtek such as in C:\....users.... and a big "if", if you know what you're doing, delete Realtek via Regedit (if you don't know what Regedit is, then ignore that step).
    • Now here's where things might have changed with Win10 over the last few days, but if not -
    • Press the Win key and x together, then click on 'system', then 'system protection, then on 'Hardware'.

    • No sound after upgrading to Windows 10 and computer wont shut down [IMG]
    • Now click on ' Device installation settings', you should see this BUT as I wrote - things might have changed !

    • No sound after upgrading to Windows 10 and computer wont shut down [IMG]
    • Make sure that "Automatically get blah blah..." is not active and you could click on the button shown above.
    • You need to go back to Device Manager (Win key + x) and click on 'Action' then 'scan for hardware changes'. With luck, you should now see your sound card reinstalled.
    • Right-click on 'Speakers' and then driver details - you want to see that you're now running with the July 2015 Windows drivers like this:-

    • No sound after upgrading to Windows 10 and computer wont shut down [IMG]

No sound after upgrading to Windows 10 and computer wont shut down [IMG]
    • IF all has gone to plan *092 you are now using Windows and not Realtek to control your speaker layout. So now right-click on the speaker icon down at bottom right and then right-click on 'Playback devices'.
    • Now click on 'Configure' and play around with the settings to suit yourself.

I did all that and sound output is back to normal. However, I believe there's some new Realtek drivers just been released for Win10 but I'm not going to try them given the hours I've spent so far !

I've had a whole series of problems with legacy devices since the Win 10 clean install, the majority of which were around the usb host controller. To be honest, there's been many times when I wished I'd never "upgraded" to Win10 during the hours I devoted to resolving problems. Some satisfaction was derived from learning I'm not alone after I'd Googled the multitude of problems. Yet now everything is back to normal, fingers crossed, Win10 after the clean install has given me a faster, slicker desktop, tho' I could probably have achieved that with a clean install of Win7.

P.S. "Preview Post" suggests that an image above appears twice - apologies.

I am running Preview build 10547 and have tried Realtek drivers 6.0.1.7572 and 6.0.1.7599 and still have the same problem as stated above and am using the same work-a-round as stated above. I have filled out a feedback form to the preview program with the information that I have stated in this post.

In case anyone is unaware of the utility that Microsoft has provided to "hide" certain updates such as Realtek drivers. Check out this KB article.
