Windows 10: No sound and video files aren't playing on my laptop

I have a recurring issue where I can't hear any sound on my laptop and video files are not playing in windows films and tv. You tube videos play but they have no sound. previously I had this issue , and i had to reset my laptopAcer Nitro 5 - AN515-55. resetting fixed the issue but I have the same problem again .please provide a solution fast. I have the latest films and tv version.

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

• Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
• Did you try the same on a different player?
• Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

• Right click on sound icon.
• Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

Follow these Steps to run Playing Audio Troubleshooter in Windows 10.

1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

2. Select Troubleshooting.

3. Select View all on the top left corner.

4. Click on Playing audio.

No sound when playing video files on Windows 10

To have better clarity on the issue, please answer the below-listed questions and get back to us.

1. Are you aware of any changes made to this computer prior to the issue?
2. When do get the error "this app can't run on this computer"?
3. Is the sound working fine in Audio files?
4. What is the make and model number of your computer?
   
   5) What is the format of Video files that you are trying to play? (You may refer to
   File types supported by Windows Media Player).

Meanwhile, download a new video file from the internet and check if the audio is coming from that video file.

Also, copy those video files onto a USB and play them on another computer and check if you are able to hear audio from thos video files.

I suggest you to follow the troubleshooting steps mentioned in Fix sound problems in Windows 10 and check if this helps.

Activate Sound in Video by playing audio first

Hey guys,

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 910 recently.

I'm happy with the design and build quality.

But I'm experiencing an annoying issue with video playing.

Here's the situation:

If I play videos, whether it's online like YouTube or local file like movies downloaded,

There would be no sound from the video at all while the sound from the system work normally.

Here's what I've been doing to "activate" the sound of the video - I play an audio file!

Even for just 1 second, I can switch back to the video and the sound would work right!

It's like, I need to play audio first to activate the sound playing then I can play video.

Once I play the audio, I can play any video with normal sound until the next time I turn on the laptop.

Notes:

1. I don' t think it's the driver issue. If the hardware is not working right with driver correctly installed,

the system sound and the audio shouldn't play at all. In a word, it should be a dumb computer

2. It's not about the app setting. It happens to 4 different video apps: Movie&TV, Windows Media Player, KMplayer, Thunder Video Player. It also happens to YouTube and other online videos.

3. The video files are not corrupted or packed without sound because after playing the audio all of them are playing right.

Does anyone have any idea what cause the problem and how to fix it?

P.S. Lenovo Tech support suggested that I should reset the BIOS and see what happen.

Later I will try reinstall the driver and reset the BIOS then I will update the result.
