  1. No sound card detection after upgrading Windows

I recently bought a new dummy Laptop, a HP Pavilion ZV6000 to be precise, and wanted to use it. It had Windows XP pre-installed, but I knew Windows XP was too old for proper use, so I upgraded to a 64-Bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate. The laptop was certainly designed for Windows XP, as it only had 2GB of RAM, but I saw absolutely no hardware restrictions or compatibility issues, so I upgraded it. Before I upgraded, I tested the Laptop thoroughly, and found that it's speakers, Altec Lansing brand, were in perfect working order. They were detected and working fine. After the upgrade, however,

Sound Card Cannot be found on ACER aspire E5-511P

"sound card cannot be found". Does the Device Manager list it, and with an error? Or is it no listed in the Device Manager?
If its not listed at all, that suggests the BIOS is not detecting it or there is a BIOS error. Windows will not detect it if the BIOS does not.

You can try a BIOS reset and see if that helps, if its not being detected by the BIOS.

  3. lost Sound Audio after upgrade to Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you follow the steps below and see if it helps.

Method 1: Type “windows updates” in the search bar and press Check for updates option. If updates are remaining, kindly install all of remaining windows updates.

Method 2: If this doesn’t help I would recommend you try updating the Audio drivers from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to update the audio drivers:

    • Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

    • Expand the Sound, Video and game controllers.

    • Right-click on the Sound card and click on Update driver software.

    • Restart the computer and check.

Method 3:Try Uninstalling and then reinstalling the Sound drivers. Follow the steps below

    • Press Windows key + R, type “devmgmt.msc” in the run prompt.

    • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers, right-click the sound card, click uninstall.

    • Restart the computer, let Windows detect the driver and install by itself.

    • Manually download the latest drivers by going to the manufacturers Website.
Hope this helps. Please respond for further queries.

Sound Quality / Windows 10 Upgrade

    Hi J,

To address this concern, we suggest that you follow these steps on how to troubleshoot sound issues after upgrading to Windows 10:

    • Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar located at the bottom right of the screen and select
      Playback Devices.
    • Select the current playback device in use and by default it should be the
      Speakers
. Double-click on it to open its Properties window.
    • Got to Advanced tab and change the bit rate to either of the following: 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz. Depending on the speaker configuration.
If that won't work, follow these steps on how to scan for hardware changes:

    • Go to Start menu, search for Device Manager and click it.
    • Expand Sound and audio devices.
    • Right-click on the current sound driver and choose Uninstall.
    • Click on Scan for hardware changes and the updated driver will be automatically installed.

If the issue still persists, we suggest that you download the latest sound card drivers for Windows 10 from your PC's manufacturer website.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thank you.
