Windows 10: No sound from any application except Microsoft Teams

I am unable to get sound to play from any application other than Microsoft Teams. I have tried visiting websites e.g. YouTube in multiple browsers Firefox, Chrome, Edge, playing the sample audio files in C:\Windows\Media using Windows Media Player, and trying to play test sounds in the sounds control panel, and none of them work. Teams is still fine, so it is clearly not a hardware issue.


I have tried using the built-in troubleshooter in settings or from the right-click menu of the volume icon in the notification area, but it does nothing. I click the "Troubleshoot" button and nothing happens at all.


There is only one audio device, the built-in laptop speakers. None of the applications are individually muted or have their volume turned down:




I tried turning off "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device", but that had no effect either.


There are no Windows updates available to install; I am on version 20H2 19042.685 and just ran a check for updates.


Are there any other audio settings buried deep inside Windows somewhere that could cause audio to work for only one application?

• What happens exactly when you try to play the sound?
• Are you getting any error message?
• Have you installed all the pending Windows updates?

• Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
• Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
• Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

I had installed MICROSOFT TEAMS APPLICATION from my microsoft account 2 days back.I have WINDOWS XP on my PC. After installing the microsoft teams application, i tried to run it but i got a ERROR that it is not a valid WIN32 APPLICATION.So can
