Windows 10: No sound when playing video files on Windows 10

I've reached a problem on my computer today when i tried to watch a movie. My video files (all of them) have no sound when played, even though yesterday it was all okay. I've tried more media players including vlc, bs player, windows media player; none of them works. I reinstalled the audio drivers but it really seems like i have no other choice than reinstalling my Windows. I would appreciate any other suggestion and help!

P. S.: I should mention that sound works fine in apps and youtube videos. It's just the files that have no sound.

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

• Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
• Did you try the same on a different player?
• Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

• Right click on sound icon.
• Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

Follow these Steps to run Playing Audio Troubleshooter in Windows 10.

1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

2. Select Troubleshooting.

3. Select View all on the top left corner.

4. Click on Playing audio.

• Did you encounter the sound issue when playing the file in Windows Media Player or any other media players?

Buzzing sound when playing video's

• Which build is running on your systems?
• Have checked for any pending updates on your system?
• Is the issue specific while playing videos or you face the same problem while playing audios as well?
• Are you using Windows application or a third party application to play video/audio?
• Does this happens with all other videos as well?

This issue might be due to outdated or corrupted graphic card drivers. Let's try the below steps and check if it helps:

Method 1: Run Video Playback Troubleshooter.

I suggest you to run the Video Playback Troubleshooter. Follow these steps to run
Video Playback troubleshooter:

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar and select it.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Video Playback troubleshooter.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
• Check if issue persists, if yes follow the below method.

Method 2: Refer to the link below “Fix sound problems” also run the audio troubleshooter provided in the same link and check if it helps.

Method 3: Uninstall and re-install display and sound drivers.

· Press
Windows + X keys together and click device manager.

Click to expand Display adapters.

·
Right click the adapter and click uninstall.

Now, you may reinstall the latest display driver from the computer manufacturer's website.
Also follow the same steps for sound drivers. Make sure all the Drivers are compatible with windows 10.

If you are not able find the drivers which is compatible with windows 10, you can download the latest available drivers from manufactures website and install them in compatibility mode, refer the link below on how to install the
drivers in compatibility mode.
