Windows 10: No Sound; Windows Shows That Everything is OK but the PC is Mute

I can't get any sound from my speakers. They are connected to the headphone jack. Windows shows that everything is okay yet there is no sound. The troubleshooter detected no problems. The volume mixer shows that there is audio but there isn't. The speakers kept making a crackling sound every few seconds so I unplugged them and plugged them back in and they keep doing it. The cable is in good shape (the speakers are new) and connected. The monitor's external speakers and a headset also displayed sound on the screen but were in actuality quiet. I can try restarting the PC but that probably won't help. Last night everything was fine. I don't know what changed.

I get sound but when I put the PC to sleep and wake it up there's no sound again. I have to restart it to get sound. Every time I put it to sleep the sound is gone when I wake it up.

Volume Mixer not showing muted app

The application was muted on Windows 10 with November update. Now I am using Anniversary update, on build 14393.10

The initial step did not help make Banished show up in the Volume Mixer, nor did the article.

 

Disable beep sound when plugging/unplugging laptop charger

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps.

Disable the PC Speakers and check if it helps.

• Right click on Sound Icon in the task bar and go to Playback devices.
  
• Select Speaker and click on properties.
  
• Go to Levels tab, and mute (or you can reduce it) PC Speaker and check if it helps.

The issue could be because of the internal mic picking up sound even when the external device is pluuged in. If you have the RealTek HD Audi Manager installed on the machine, I would suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works for
you.

• Open RealTek HD Audio Manager and go to the
  Advanced tab.
  
• Check the boxes Separate all input jacks as independent input devices
  and Mute the internal output device, when external headphone is plugged in,
  and hit OK.
  
• Exit RealTek HD Audio Manager, restart the machine and see if the issue persists.
