Windows 10: No space to update

Hello

Any help much appreciated. I recently bought a new laptop a hp . I have nothing on the laptop. I have a external 1tb harddrive with all my stuff on it. Yet my laptop says it's full and I can not clear space to download the new windows it keeps telling me I need to do??

Says system and reserved is 16.6gb

Apps and games is 7.53gb but I can not uninstall anything on the list as it wont allow me to where it is all Microsoft stuff that was already installed on it.

Tells me there is 1gb in temp files no matter how many times I clear it out!

There is literally nothing on it basically but tells me to use an external harddrive to install the update and I click to choose it and then it still asks me to clear 3gb of space which I can not seem to do or find!!

How can I have a brand new laptop that's full and wont let me use the harddrive for anything I'm so confused why can they sell a laptop with no space other than for their stuff I can not delete!!

• Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
• Click OK.

• What is the make and model of your computer?
• What is the exact error message that you're getting when performing an update?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Since you have a less amount of space in your hard disk, I suggest you to free up some disk space by running disk cleanup on your system.

Here are the steps:

• 
  To delete temporary files:
  
  • 
    Search for Disk cleanup from the taskbar and select it from the list of results.
    
  • 
    Under Files to delete, select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
    
  • 
    Select OK.
    
• 
  If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:
  
  • 
    In Disk cleanup, select Clean up system files.
    
  • 
    Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
    
  • 
    Select OK.
    

Once you perform the above steps, install the Windows updates manually and check.

Follow these steps:

1. Hit
Windows Key and type

2. Type
Windows Updates

3. Click on
Windows Updates

4. Click on
Check for updates and install the latest windows updates.
