Windows 10: no speakers or headphones are plugged in Everything looks right buts nothing works

hello this might be my last resort before I give up I was on my computer and everything was fine until I restarted it and when I turned it back on it had no sound when I click test sound it says failed to play test tone I've tried every internet fix for this nothing works I also have a red x next to my sound icon in the bottom right i need time away from the screen hopefully someone can help with a fix so $1200 wont go down the drain

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in

I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
