Windows 10: No speakers sound after October update, horrible lag and 100% CPU usage

After I did the most recent October 2018 update I don't have sound through the speakers anymore. Moreover, when I uninstall and install the audio drivers and do a restart the PC totally freezes up, the cursor is barely moving and the CPU usage is at 100%. After the next restart it seems to be working normally although still with no sound.


The sound through the front panel audio where I connect headphones works fine. Any solutions?

Outlook (Hotmail) typing lag and 100% CPU usage

Hi Jesinta,

Internet Explorer trouble shooter didn't find any issues.

I opened Internet Explorer with all addons off, as you requested. I opened Hotmail, tried replying to an email, and still get lag, with CPU usage spiking from around 80-100%.

I already did several Clean Boots. My problem still exists.

Please note that in my original description I stated that I'm getting the lag in four different types of browsers (Edge, I.E. 11, Chrome, and Firefox). I'm pretty sure you saw that, but just in case I thought I'd point it out.

I'm not sure if this is a Windows issue or what. Thanks for the response, but unfortunately none of these steps fixed anything.

cpu usage at 100%

CPU usage at 100% from start up for no apparently good reason. Service Host appears to be the problem but I cant narrow it down more than that at present.

Any suggestions?

I am using Windows 10 full release version 64 bit.

I'm having this same problem with an i7-2600k. When I open resource monitor, it causes my system to hang and become jittery. I also get the millions of percent for the cpu column. Closing resource monitor makes the lag go away, but my cpu usage still reports
as 100% in task manager. HWMonitor reports normal cpu temps and normal cpu utilization. Using perfmon shows normal cpu utilization.
