No superfetch No windows search No Defrag still 100% disk usage

Ok Here is the thing, I recently upgraded to windows 10 and every works find except that 100% disk usage thing.
Two programs take all the disk resources which are "System" and "Service host local system".

I literally tried everything on the internet, including disabled superfetch, prefetch, windows search services(indexing), deleted scheduled tasks(defrag), expanding virtual memory. But still, system and service host still takes disk and I cannot disable these processes from taskmanager, obviously. And its not even funny, sometimes It takes 5 minutes to open a freaking chrome browser which is just, just frustrating.

This didn't happen on my Win8 btw, only on fresh installed Win10.

Is there anyway that I can do to save my laptop from damaged disk? Or should I sell my Win10 and switch to MAC.
Thanks for the help in advance

    :)

My disk usage on Task Manager is at 100%. i have reset the page file size, disabled windows search AND superfetch, don't have MSI AHCP in my registry, and have disabled notifications. why is my disk usage still at 100%?

  3. 100% disk usage

The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.

This article provides steps to disable prefecth and superfetch:

No superfetch No windows search No Defrag still 100% disk usage

Can you post pictures like this as a start (task manager disk information and resource monitor)... You don't want to disable services - it will not help. Prefetch makes your boot faster by remembering what you usually use. Indexing takes a while to complete but once it has the overhead is minimal.

You could of course switch to Mac if you prefer it but for me (I run Windows 10 on a MacBook) Windows is better. I'm not evangelistic about it though - it is entirely up to you.

Hmmm. This is an old Windows problem. 100% utilisation when actual read/write is nothing.

If you look at your task manager print there is nothing happening but Windows thinks it is fully used. You could look here but there doesn't seem to be an answer... 100% Disk Usage

Hopefully someone else will come up with an idea but I can't I'm afraid.

  7. From My experience , Download software Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring and See the SMART values
Also software shows you HDD health.
If HDD health is poor , then 100% Disk usage problem occur in windows 7 , 8 and 10.
Try to replace HDD before it expires.

Other option , try to uninstall antivirus software Avast (just for few days)and see if this do any help *Smile

No superfetch No windows search No Defrag still 100% disk usage

I've had this issue on a Win7 desktop and it turned out to be the Win boot disk
It made the PC take for ever to boot and launching almost anything was painful
Try running CrystalDiskInfo but prepare for an HD replacement (make an image then restore to the new disk)

  9. My hardware: HP Envy 15, Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB (Win 10)

I also recently started showing 100% disk usage, with VERY LITTLE I/O shown in the task manager - maybe 10 MB/s total from all shown processes. But the 100% disk usage froze my machine for several minutes at a time, forcing me to hard boot (press and hold the power key) to get back control. I found this article on microsoft.com (kb/3083595) that says:

    Cause
"While device resets can be caused by a varying number of factors, we are aware of issues with some Advanced Host ControllerInterface PCI-Express(AHCI PCIe) models that causes these symptoms in Windows 10 when running with the inbox StorAHCI.sys driver. Due to a firmware bug, the Solid-state drive (SSD) does not properly complete input/output when Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) mode is enabled. As a result, the Windows storage stack attempts to reset the device after waiting on unresponsive reads or writes for a period of time."

It then tells how to disable MSI (not AHCI) by editing the registry. HOWEVER, the article's instructions varied from my setup, including the name of the driver file (mine is iaStorA.sys). AFTER BACKING UP the registry, I followed the closest parallel to the instructions to change the MSISupported values from 1 to 0 (there were two total for me). I had to parse the entire length of the "Device instance path" shown in the device manager Details under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, to get to what I think the article's instructions was pointing me to.

I had already stopped Superfetch and Prefetch, turned off "Show me tips about Windows," etc. None of that worked.

    We'll see what happens now....

Disk Usage was at 100% every time I rebooted and for a long time after the desktop loaded. It meant it would take about 10 minutes for things to calm...
