Windows 10: No surround sound output on Windows 10

Hello everyone. When testing sound through the control board settings, I am able to hear the test audios in all my surround sound speakers. However, I am unable to get any sound through the rear speakers when playing anything else- be it Netflix through the app that has surround sound available, youtube, or any kind of video online. If I plug my ps4 into the same input on my stereo with the same HDMI cord, it gets surround sound with no problem.

Windows 10 audio stutters regardless of driver or output used, more noticeable on the toslink and surround sound.

• What device are you using? A laptop or a computer?
• Its a desktop, i listed the components in the original post.
• Do you have an external speaker?From which device does the sound come out from? From the TV or from the device?
• I listed the outputs in the original post. The issue exists on all outputs and exists on the tv speakers, surround sound speakers, and headset.
• What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
• I have listed the troubleshooting steps that i can remember in the original post.

 

Issues with 5.1 Surround Sound with Windows 10

What is the make and model of the computer?

Which audio driver are you using?

In order to output 5.1 surround sound, the sound card and the audio device (Speakers) must have 5.1 support and not all sound cards are configured to output 5.1 surround signal. Also, as you have mentioned that there could be compatibility issues where
the audio drivers may not be fully supported on Windows 10?

If the sound card supports, and is configured to output 5.1 surround signal, please ensure that the computer is set up properly to output the signal.

• Open the Run dialog box by pressing the
  Windows key and R together.
  
• Type mmsys.cpl and hit the Enter key to open the
  Sound control panel.
  
• Under Playback tab, right click on the audio device (speaker) and select
  Set default.
  
• Click on the Configure button to launch the device (speaker) setup window.
  
• Click the dropdown list under Audio channels and select
  5.1 Surround and click Next.
  
• Check the boxes Center, Subwoofer and
  Side pair and click Next.
  
• Click Finish once the configuration completes.
  

Sometimes, the outdated, missing or corrupted audio drivers can also cause problems in 5.1 surround output. So, I would also suggest to update the audio drivers or uninstall/reinstall the audio driver if it the latest version of the driver is already
installed. Please refer to the article below.

Windows 10 - Surround sound (VIA Audio HD)

Hi Ashish,

I was able to use 5.1 surround output, Microphone, Line IN and Stereo Mix on Windows 7. But now on Windows 10, I'm able to record sound when Windows automatically install recommended drivers, but then I can only get stereo output from my speakers and 5.1
surround sound is not working.

After I installed recommended drivers from VIA website, I got 5.1 surround output but then Microphone, Line IN and Stereo Mix are missing from installed device list, and troubleshooter list these devices as not installed and not working.

But if I roll back to Windows 10 recommended drivers, then all of these devices working as they should except my speakers.
