No text displayed in explorer after Creators Update

I have updated my Windows 10 to the latest version. After update I can't see any text in explorer (no folder and file names), only icons are shown. The same problem is with old Control Panel. On the other hand, the new settings menu is working as well as menu start. I've tried restarting, changed english from polish to english and back to polish. I have also created new account, but there is the same problem. How to fix it? It is really annoying.

No text displayed in explorer after Creators Update

    • My computer was a WIN10 running on a Lenovo UltraBook Carbon. I had already successfully upgraded to “Fall Creators Update” and had actually been running on it for several months with no issues!!

My problems showed up after I did a Windows Recovery from a few days ago to recover an account, but this should have been totally OK as again,
been running with “FCU” for several months! I had one more older Recovery point but yielded the same issue.
    • Mine corrupted the display for all the programs/windows (including the CMD), hence was almost impossible to run/maneuver most the solutions/options recommended. I did have another similar machine handy, so I was able to execute some of the commands blindly
      by duplicating the keystrokes!!
    • I reboot into Safe Mood, tried a Clean Boot, and even ran the SFC /Scannow, but no dice… the issue persisted. I had a ton of applications installed and customized, so a clean install would have been an extreme last result!!
    • Finally, I discovered that a few non-MS apps seemed to work/display normally and one of those was the
Lenovo Connect2 App which was handily on both desktops.
    • I was able to execute it on both and copy the CU setup file [Windows10Upgrade9252.exe ] from my 2nd Machine. This took me through the upgrade very smoothly and although it took close to 1 hr to complete, it ran and completed
with no issues at all and after reboot, the issue was resolved and I am now able to log back in and it’s back to normal… I can now see all the missing text.
    • PS: I was immediately get prompted of a quarantined threat by Windows Defender, soon after logging back in, so I now suspect that had something to do with my case (stupid shared files – torrents)!!
Taking Snapshots and backing up, THEN run a full-scale Virus Scan!!
    • This took me more than 3 days to find a solution for it… so sharing it here just in case someone else ends up in the same situation!!

      Thanks.

  5. Welcome to the forums ebp7!

If WOT's suggestions don't help ..... have you tried a system file check? If you haven't done one of those before, just follow the steps in this tutorial : Run SFC Command in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Customization Tutorials

We have some very talented people here and the tutorials are quite easy to understand and follow. If this doesn't help we can try something else.

I have Core i5 3337U. Nightrain has the same issue with AMD CPU too.

I have no idea how to run it because my cmd is totally corrupted. I can't type or see any text. There is only small window. I tried to run it with .bat file with this command:

    cmd sfc /scannow

    But it seems nothing happened.

I noticed that Comodo Firewall and Windows Defender are disabled.

EDIT: The problem is finally gone. I am not sure what exactly helped in my case but I have uninstalled Comodo Firewall and disabled all 3rd party services like Skype Updater, Foxit PDF Service etc.

    I got the same problem.
I posted on reddit a similar thread. I knew something wasn't right when in the installation menu it showed this corruption.
Installed twice, restart fix the text issue momentarily but the menus are messed up.

The system is 3 days old (fresh install W10 Aniversary) common hardware Ryzen, Samsung ssd.
Common software from those you posted is Comodo. Didn't try to uninstall software /reinstall Creators for third time.
System was working in safe mode, no issues reported by sfc /dism.

  9. Guys i had the same problem. I updated my comodo firewall and it fixed the issue. You either remove 3rd party firewall or wait for the fix. Lucky for me comodo releases the update yeaterday that fixed the issue.

  11. I had this problem on a computer with Comodo IS Premium10.0.1.60**. So I updated it with a fresh install from the Comodo site, to 10.0.1.6209. I still have this problem.

So I tried it on another computer, with CISP 10.0.1.60**, updated it to 10.0.1.6209, fresh install. Same problem.

One PC is NVIDIA graphics (latest driver) the other PC is AMD graphics (not latest driver).

It boggles my mind that this is being rolled out around the world in a couple days. So many PCs about to die!

I could uninstall Comodo, that might fix this? But I've invested so much to setup Comodo with my custom security settings in my home network.

Those above that have reported updating Comodo to now work with Creators update without this problem, please specify exact what Comodo product, and what version number exactly that you've had problems with, and what you've had success with.

LOL I got the exact issue on my laptop (which has a Core i7 6500U),
Only start menu had text, anything else was blank, and context menus were smaller (like if the text was really missing)

But in my case only happened once, I rebooted it and it was all fine and didn't happened anymore *Biggrin

    PD: I don't have Comodo.

  13. No text displayed in explorer after Creators Update

Hello, I also am having this problem. No text. No where. Teensy weensy empty context menus. Thank goodness I have a second computer to look here for help. Unfortunately, there is no text to be able to SEE where to open a command line. I happened to use it the other day for a system check, and managed to open one by guessitmating the location. (no text, remember) The command line box opened but ...no text. I could not see a prompt nor see what I typed. So I could not see if it even ran, or what the results would have been. I managed to figure out just about where the restart option was and tried it, but the problem was still there after restart. I would love to share what processor I have ..an I7 something but I found directions to revert back to my original windows 10. Hope I get my text back. I will be checking here to see if any fixes have been found. BTW, I do not run Comodo.

If a 3rd party program is causing this you can check by trying a clean boot (or Safe Mode, which is easier to try).

Then it's a process of elimination.

  15. I was able to fix this by removing Comodo Internet Security. It seems the latest Windows 10 Creator update has a conflict with Comodo at the moment.
