Windows 10: No thumbnail for .bmp files on windows 10

I'm using windows 10. Somehow it doesn't show the thumbnail of specifically .bmp files. I'm currently using Irfan View as my main image viewer, but uninstalling it won't change anything.

On my desktop which operates window 7, I can open the file explorer and when I open a folder which contains images(png,jpg and other file formats) I can view the images as thumbnails without opening them with an image viewer software.

My suface pro does not have this feature. windows 8 and windows 10 cannot perform this feature. For someone who works with many images I cannot spend time converting my large image portfolio of image to (bmp) files just to be able to view the thumbnails.

can this be reconfigured?

I realize that the picture files are not updating thumbnails. I will try to help you with this issue.

Suggest you to perform “Disk Cleanup”, cleaning up the temporary internet files, thumbnail, cookies and temp files, so as to check the thumbnail view of the photo is updated by cleaning up your temporary data.

Further, if the issue persists then you can also follow these steps:

• 
  Right click in the Folder that contains the images.
  
• 
  Select View.
  
• 
  Note the current icon size, and change it to another size (ie: "Medium-Icons" to "Large-Icons", then back to "Medium-Icons").
  
• 
  This causes the icons to be resized and their cache updated.

Windows 10 File Explorer is auto-creating small .png files for all my .bmp files

I have recently started using windows 10 and have found many solutions to issues except this one.

I have an image folder with many BMP image files in it. Apparently, Windows 10 is (without my choice or options) creating small separate copy images of every bmp file. They are also images and copies but are in .png format. These files png images are named
the same as my bmp images, but have "icon_bmp" added into the filenames. This only seems to happen with BMP image files and no other types such as original png images or jpg, etc. I usually browse image folders with extra big thumbnail view, and seeing all
of the extra png copies of the bmp files right next the original is very annoying. I never asked for this setting nor do I see any way to turn it off, but there must be a way, right?
