Windows 10: No video programs work on my new computer

I recently bought a new computer an Acer Predator Helios 300 that is running Windows 10. Whenever I try to run a video file from my external hard drive on ANY video program Windows Media Player, Movies & TV, etc., it will not play. For WMP, it says "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." For Movies & TV, it says "Please try again. If the problem continues, visit https://support.microsoft.com to check for guidance. 0x800706be". This occurs regardless of the type of video format .mp4, .avi, etc.. I also tried playing a video by putting it directly

(I'm assuming you did at least a few of these steps, since you stated you tried other suggestions earlier)

I haven't gotteen to this suggestion yet - but, I've shut down half my Extensions and, now, I get the voice of the Youtube videos - but still not the video. Thought this clue might help.

1) Does this issue occur on Internet Explorer too?

2) Are you able to play the videos which are there in the local drive using Windows media player?

This issue might be because of corrupted graphic drivers.

I suggest you to run the video troubleshooter and check if it helps.

  In the left pane click on

• 
  Select Video Playback.
  
• 
  Follow the prompted steps to troubleshoot this issue.
  

I suggest you to update the graphics card drivers/display drivers from manufacturer website and check if it resolves the issue.

  Open Device Manager.

  Expand ‘Display Adapter’.
  
• 
  Locate the display driver.
  
• 
  Right-click on the display card listed and click on ‘Update Driver Software’
  

If issue still persists, I would suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if it works.

Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

• Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows operating system from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.
