No wifi networks appearing after turning off autoconfiguration for wifi.

    Hi all,

I was having large ping spikes for a long time and I finally fixed it after entering this into command promptnetsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=no interface="Wireless Network Connection"

This fixed the issue, but after entering it no wifi networks were appearing so I couldn't connect to any.

Putting in netsh wlan show networks said that "Visible networks cannot be displayed because auto configuration has been disabled on the interface". I would like to be able to discover wifi networks whilst not having the ping spikes that turning off auto configuration fixed. I am using a USB wifi adapter, though I don't think it's an issue with that because I have had the same issue with 2 different USB wifi adapters.

    Please help!

    Regards, Riley.

    :)

WiFi appears in Manage Known Networks, not in Show Available Networks

The list of WiFi connections shown when you click the WiFi icon in the taskbar is a list of all the signals that can currently be seen by the WiFi adapter. The list in Manage Known Networks is a list of all those you have previously successfully connected to, whether or not they are currently available.

The only plausible explanation is that for a while that WiFi signal had been turned off.

Wifi network not appearing after recent Win 10 monthly patch

Someone else on another forum suggested I switch the wifi freq on my Android Nexus 5x. So I switched it from 5ghz to 2.4 and it worked! Problem solved. Now my Nexus hotspot is again appearing in my Win 10 list of available wifi networks. So problem was with Android and not Windows.

No wifi networks appearing after turning off autoconfiguration for wifi.

Windows 10 wifi not turning on Acer Aspire laptop

In order to get the list of available wireless networks, you have to:

    1. Switch on Connect to suggested open hotspots (see the screenshot in question);
    2. Click on Wifi icon in the right corner. Now you have your networks back.

After that the parameter from Step 1 can be turned off, networks will be listed normally after restarting Wifi.

P.S. I feel rather stupid at the moment. I thought that open hotspots are passwordless hotspots and so are presumably not very safe. So of course I've turned that off during installation.
Really hard to see any logic in this case.
