Windows 10: No Windows Updates But Something Weird Has Happened on Restart- Please Read Context

I have no Windows Updates available to me right now, I'm pretty much up to date on my Windows 10; I did update Google Chrome, Microsoft365/Office, and Windows Defender [Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 Version 1.397.586.0] earlier, but that should not have any affect on what happenedso essentially, to test something with Task Manager processes, I shut down my PC and waited for the display to turn off completely as usual, then I turned it back on and left the room while it did the boot process. Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Context Menu - Open With (Windows Suggested List)

Well.. have a look at this:




I took a risk. I've set a System Restore point then installed Gold Wave.
It was not present in that Open With list.

I used the Default Programs Editor:




Did you click Save...? You should have seen:




Note: if you are running as a standard user you may need to run it as admin, if it doesn't offer a UAC prompt.
