non-booting SSD or possibly hardware controller or malware

    Hello,
I hope you can help please, first with a fix and then a root cause for a non-booting SSD and possibly hardware controller or malware.

    Background
Laptop 1 with SSD, v20H2,19042.746. I was trying to verify a newly bought Sandisk microSD size. I downloaded a couple of tools and gave Defender exception to run and some partition tools to resize the microsd with. Laptop shutdown normally. So I think more than likely downloaded malware and / or partitioned the wrong disk. I admit I'm very stupid in doing this and I get all I deserve, my only pitiful defence is that I'm an old boy and it was a senior moment.

    Problem
Laptop 1. INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE if my SSD is inserted in the laptop. First I got booted to the startup repair (with a/c log in). Stopcode Error is "Your PC couldn't start properly, inaccessable boot device, code 0xc0000001".

What have I done so far
I removed the SSD and mounted it in a usb caddy, using old laptop2 with HDD, the usb shows all the partitions are visible. I worked out which was the Laptop1 OS partition and made sure it was active with diskpart / list disk / select disk/ list partition / select partition / active.
Also I did bootrec /rebuildbcd /fixmbr /fixboot (I get an access is denied for this. Assume because it is protected as I'm on laptop2 account and dont know the commands to make this work with another account)

So on laptop2 I downloaded the latest windows install media and with this booted up on laptop1 there are error variations on the same theme, BCD corrupted, winload.exe corrupted, no OS, etc. So I have a SSD which will not boot or cannot be seen.

My next step was to create the wonderful Kyhi's Bootdisk (obviously it was created on on laptop2). With the SSD inserted into laptop1 Kyhi's Bootdisk does not see the SSD at all. With the SSD in a usb caddy Kyhi's Bootdisk sees all the partitions.
I'm not convinced I've created this Bootdisk correctly Marium Reflect did a boot repair but my SSD doesn't even loadup (maybe needs some drivers)

Any help available please ? The SSD has 4 partitions, luckily for me I have the user profiles with data on one and the OS on another. I have no images or restore points.

    Many thanks, Stuart,

PS After this I would like help to find the root cause as well

    :)

Windows 10 SSD Boot and Sleep faliure

Windows cannot stop the BIOS recognising the SSD. If at any time you can go into the BIOS and the SSD is not listed then you have an (intermittent) hardware fault. It does not matter what the precursor steps are if the hardware was OK it must be listed

Step 6 is categorical, you have a hardware fault. BIOS device recognition is always before drivers load so they cannot affect the process

  3. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu.

    Hi Matthew,

There are several possible reasons as to why your computer is not detecting an SSD drive. This could be caused by incorrect BIOS settings or device drivers that need to be updated. Since you already tried the suggestion of Andre Da Costa and this allowed
your computer to detect the SSD already, we would like to further clarify your concern by asking the questions below:

    • If you were already able to install Windows on the SSD, have you already attempted to change the boot order in the BIOS menu?
    • Which version of Windows did you install on the SSD?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you attempted?

We look forward to your response to our queries.

Windows 10 boot loop possible malware

    Hello,

I realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with Windows 10. I will certainly help you.

Try the below steps and check if it helps:

Step 1: I suggest you to install Windows 10 using the media creation tool:

Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool

Step 2: After installing Windows 10, perform an Automatic Repair.

    Follow these steps:

    • When your computer starts, wait for the manufacturer logo to check the option for boot menu, it will usually be
      F12.
    • The boot menu key might differ with each manufacturer. If you are unable to find the boot menu key, you may refer the user manual.
    • Restart the computer, when the manufacturer's logo is displayed, keep pressing the
Boot menu option key to enter the boot menu and change the boot option to
      CD\DVD ROM.
    • After you boot your computer using Windows 8 DVD, a black screen appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press any key.
    • Select the correct time and Keyboard type.
    • Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner
    • Click on Troubleshooting, advanced option and then click
      Automatic repair.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to get back to us for further queries. We will be happy to assist you.
