Windows 10: Non-responsive duplicate desktop icons -post Win 10 20H0 update

Hello, Finally decided to get the 20H0 system update out of the way on satellite w/ limited bandwidth. Everything appeared to transition normal except there was a duplicate recycle bin icon the new default and my old custom icon. The old icon was unresponsive, frozen in place, and not even listed in my "Desktop" folder. Booted to Safe Mode with no difference. When the system was rebooted, in normal, all of the custom desktop icons had been duplicated with new shortcut arrows and all of the old custom icons were in their original locations and unresponsive a

• Have you made any recent changes to your computer system prior to getting this issue?
  
• Are you experiencing the same issue about your desktop icons being moved to the left of your screen after every Windows update?
  
• What is the current build and version of your Windows 10? To get these information, please follow these steps:
  

• Press Windows key + R.
• Once the Run box appears, type Winver.
• Press Enter.
• A small window will appear, check for the version and the build.

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

 

Blank icons + non-responsiveness after start-up

In relation to another
post, I had a similar problem. I then cleaned up my desktop and removed several icons linking to programs that I no longer need on my desktop now that the start menu provides that function. Voila! The freezes with blank icons stopped happening. I must
have removed a corrupt icon that was freezing the start-up. I am posting this as I have not seen this suggestion in relation to this problem.

A simple trial would be to go to your desktop folder (C:\Users\%profile%\Desktop and move all the icons and folders to a temporary location. See if that cures your start-up blues and then, if it does, gradually reintroduce those links that you REALLY need
on your desktop. If the freeze reappears, then it is due to one of the recently reintroduced icons.
