  3. Best Solution

Hey guys this problem still seems to be going on. I don't have the problem but I'm trying to help someone that has the problem.

So far what I could put together is:

Possible cause: Windows updates & GPO that changes folder permissions

Best solution so far: Use System Restore in combination with narrater to restore the computer to a previous state.

So what about using system restore from the recovery environment did anyone try this with success, this seems to be a more concrete solution than doing a system restore in blind mode.

And what about the solution Robinio presented did anyone but himself had success with it:

    ICACLS.exe c:\Windows\Fonts /T /Q /C /RESET

    ICACLS.exe c:\Windows /T /Q /C /RESET

When I try to run this commands from Windows without the /q (quiet) switch I get some success messages but also a lot of access dnied messages even with Administator cmd and Full access granted.

I tried this on a Windows 8.1 computer I went into recovery environment and removed access to the"Application pacages Authority" inbuild user. To my surpise I went back into Windows and everything still looks normal no fonts disapeard. Try this later on a windows 10 computer....that's my research so far.

I apreaciate any help in solving the problem with a better solution than runing system restore in blind mode, thanks.

Update: So now I had access to a Windows 10 machine, I went into the recovery environment and removed all access from this accounts to the c:\windows\fonts

    • APPLICATION PACKAGE AUTHORITY\ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES
    • APPLICATION PACKAGE AUTHORITY\ALL RESTRICTED APPLICATION PACKAGES

When I boot back to Windows all text is gone and additionally massage boxes and widzards are cut off and not readable at all.

So I opened an elevated command prompt in blind mode and typed:

    shutdown -o -r -t 0

Back in the recovery environment I used the command suggested by Robinio:

    icacls e:\Windows\Fonts /reset /t /c

    * The Windows drive is recognized differently in recovery environment sometimes thus e: not c:

When I go back to Windows everything is fine again.

So I can recommend the method suggested by robinio but it is better to run the command from the recovery environment when Windows is shutdown otherwise you get a lot of access denied messages (about half the fonts).

    Dell Acquires Clerity Solutions

Dell today announced it has acquired Clerity Solutions, a leading global provider of applications modernization and re-hosting solutions and services. Clerity's capabilities will enable Dell Services to help customers reduce the cost of transitioning business-critical applications and data from legacy computing systems and onto more modern architectures, including the cloud.

Dell has taken significant steps over the past three years to expand its services capabilities to help customers manage the increasing complexity of IT, including the ability to support growing volumes of data, streamline processes and ease the transition to cloud-based solutions.

Clerity's unique re-hosting solution makes it easier for customers to move applications off legacy computing architectures into the new IT environment of their choice. By automating this approach to IT modernization through its UniKix offering, Clerity helps customers minimize the need to retest systems and retrain IT personnel—which results in overall cost and time savings.

Clerity was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Chicago, Ill. Dell welcomes Clerity's approximately 70 employees to the Dell Services team, and plans to make continued investments to grow the applications modernization capabilities of its Services business. Additional terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

    Quotes

We are thrilled to welcome the Clerity team to Dell."

"The combination of Clerity and Dell provides tremendous growth opportunities for our core application modernization and re-hosting solutions, and rapidly expands our global reach and scale," said Brandon Edenfield, president, Clerity Solutions.
