Windows 10: None OS HDD keeps going to 100% at idle

Hello, so I've been having this issue for a long time now, Like I'm not even sure when it started happening but anyways, I have a total of 3 drives in my system. A Samsung 950 Pro M.2 which has my Windows 10 Pro OS on it along with other applications and stuff, then a Samsung 850 EVO which has mainly just games, and then lastly a Western Digital Black which also has games along with tons of files like Downloads, Pictures, Music, and just anything you can think of that doesn't need to be on a SSD.

So the problem I'm having is if I'm not doing something on the PC then the WD Black HDD will start to have high disk usage and of course be obnoxiously loud like most WD Black HDDs, but the moment I start doing something, such as typing this thread post or watching YouTube, Gaming, or even just moving the mouse around, then it will instantly stop working and go back to being in a idle state like it should normally be. And if I leave task manager open and walk away for the couple of minutes to let it start back up, task manager will show "System" as the culprit that is working the disk. The thing is, it only does this to the HDD, not to either one of the SSDs, and it puts the disk at 100% but is only at around 20MB/s.

If you need any more info to help me with this please let me know because I would really like to figure out why it's doing this and figure out how to fix it, thanks!

Windows Defender needs to chill

Why is WD using 100% HDD, 30% RAM and CPU?

it's not scanning, updating or deleting.

It's sitting idle and using up 50% of my PC's resources.

IF this is the normal Idle state of WD.... please recommend a less resource Hog anti-virus.

IF this is a bug or an issue.... please post a solution.

Same issue here think I'll give this a go.

My guess is that Defender needs to give every file on your computer the 'once over' before it can rest. Possibly Windows is misinterpreting the speed of the HDD, eg, in my case Task manager says my disk activity is 33% when my D drive is at 100%, it doesn't
take into account that my two other drives are idle.

MS programmers have never been very good with system monitoring...

Another possibility is that windows is miscalculating as to whether the computer is idle or not since Windows usually runs tasks when a pc is idle, defrag, cleanup restarting after updates etc..

 

I would download procexp https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sys...ocess-explorer. Right click on the column headers and add Read and Write under the IO tab. Expand the SYSTEM process to narrow down where the disk activity is coming from. There shouldn't be much running directly under SYSTEM. A rootkit is another possibility which would require a tool like TSSDKiller, rootkit revealer or gmer to identify.

 

The disk will by default be set to optimize auto on idle if its used for downloads it may be fargmented a lot right click on the drive properties tools optimize and see if its fragmented the other option it could be index for search but the fact it stops on use suggests its a genuine windows funtion doing it

So far according to this, System was doing 0 when it started up but Task Manager was still showing it to be System, I'm not sure why that is unless I have it setup wrong but I don't think that's the case.

The disk is 0% fragmented so that is fine and not the issue, I have a strong feeling it is a Windows function that is causing this to happen. Either way, it's not a Windows function that I feel is needed so if I could find a way to disable it, even if it's through the registry, I would like to do that.

 

Alright, so according to Resource Monitor it is svchost.exe (defragsvc) that is doing all the read/write and making out the HDD after idle. But that makes no sense to me since I have it permanently stopped in Services...
