Norton Installed on Win 11 but Antimalware Service Executable Still Running

Installed Norton on a re-installation of Windows 11 Home. The option for Defender to do occasional scans is switched OFF. Yet the Defender Antimalware Service Executable task is still running, even after a number of restarts and also is updating its definitions regularly. Is this what I should expect, as I thought installing a 3rd Party antivirus would switch off Defender completely? Is there another setting I need to look at?TIA.Wilf

    :)

  2. Antimalware Service Executable

    Hello,

Currently I'm facing a problem with the antimalware service executable. It uses half of my memory, I did tried some solutions such as: Change Windows Defender’s schedule and Add Antimalware Service Executable to Windows Defender exclusion list. However, none of these solutions has yet fixed my issue. Any help is appreciated.

Should I install another antivirus program?

    2 Antimalware service executables

What you see is likely normal for Windows 11.

The first part that shows Antimalware Service Executable > Microsoft Defender Antivirus Service

is just the one process - as it is in Windows 10.

It is MsMpEng.exe which is the executable running as the WinDefend service.

Antimalware Service Executable Content Process is MsMpEngCP.exe. I'm not entirely sure of this executables purpose though it seems to have something to do with definition updates. I suspect it holds all the virus signature information in memory.
