Windows 10: Not able to add folder shortcut to the taskbar in Windows 11

Hi,I can add the folder shortcut to the Start Menu and the Quickstart Menu but there is no option there to pin it to the taskbar. In fact, I seem to remember that in Windows 10 I had to add a sub bar to the taskbar first before I could add the shortcut there.I have only recently been upgraded to Windows 11 didn't have a say in this as our IT dept automatically install Windows 11 if you've trashed your SSD. That wasn't me by the way it was a colleague that did the damage.I have all the other tasks that I needed added to the taskbar, it's just the ability to add shortcut folders there and wh

As per the issue description you are unable to add a shortcut to the taskbar in Windows 10. You are right that there is no option to pin the shortcut to the taskbar. However, you should be able to drag and drop the shortcut to the taskbar. If you are unable
to do that try the steps provided below and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

• Open the network connection page by clicking on the shortcut.
• Once that page is open, you could see the same in the taskbar.
• Now, right click on the icon of network connection in the taskbar which is representing your shortcut.
• Select the option pin to the taskbar.
• Now the shortcut will be pinned to the taskbar.

This answer is troubling. Yes, after opening the calculator, I could right-click the icon in the taskbar and select Pin to Taskbar. BUT, why was I unable to simply drag the shortcut from the desktop? This answer says I "should be able to drag and drop",
but I wasn't. What's the root cause of THAT failure?

 

Adding a folder as an Icon to the Taskbar

Hello Bluehills,

One possible way to add a folder as an icon to the taskbar in Windows 11 is to use the Quick Launch toolbar. Here are the steps to do that:

1. Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar and select Toolbars > New toolbar.

2. In the dialog box that opens, navigate to the folder that contains your shortcuts and select it. Click on Select Folder.

3. You should see a new toolbar on the right of the taskbar with the name of the folder. You can drag it to adjust its position and size.

4. To remove the text and show only icons, right-click on the toolbar and uncheck Show Text and Show Title.

5. To change the icon of the folder, right-click on it and select Properties. Click on Change Icon and choose an icon from the list or browse for a custom one. Click OK to apply the changes.

You have now added a folder as an icon to the taskbar in Windows 11. You can access your shortcuts by clicking on the icon and choosing from the menu that pops up.
