  1. Not able to disable my touch pad even though I did not enable it

I find the touch pad terribly inconvenient to use compared to a mouse and always have it disabled when possible. Two days ago I realized it was enabled and immediately went to disable it like I normally do using FN+F3 on my MSi laptop and that did not work. I ignored it hoping the issue might resolve itself and tried restarting my PC, but it was still enabled.

I tried manually disabling it first through the control panel where there is supposedly an option to toggle it on and off, but that option is missing, only letting me change the sensitivity settings of the touch pad.

I then tried going through the device manager. Initially the touch pad did not even appear under the mouse drop down menu, after restarting it did appear and I saw the driver event history showed a new driver was installed, then deleted, then configured, which seemed to line up with the time the issue began. I attempted to roll back to the previous driver and restarted. The issue is still not fixed, but now where the touch pad should appear in the device manager seems to be named PS/2 Compatible mouse.

I am incredibly frustrated that none of the suggested methods seem to be available to me the way they should be, and am looking for a solution.

    :)

When I use the 2 finger scroll on my touch pad it locks my computer.

    Hi all,

Every time I use my touch pad my computer locks and brings me back to the profile login screen. This just recently started and I haven't been able to find any answers to this question online. I also have not had a recent update in the last day that would
have spawned the issue. It is extremely frustrating.

    Steps I've taken:

    • Shut down and restart twice
    • uninstalling and reinstalling drivers
    • disabling touch pad and re-enabling touch pad

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Disable Touch Pad.

    Hi VolubleAbyss007,

Sorry you are still having problems, did you try what I suggested to do for NanWilliams1?

    "Hi again NanWilliams1,

I hope this is the answer to your question, if you have any problems please let me know. I am by no means a computer tech but I like to keep at things until I get the desired result.

Firstly, click on the Windows symbol bottom left on task bar, scroll down and look for Synaptics Pointing Device, click on that. It will take you to Device Settings window where you highlight the Touch Pad, in doing that you will have the options to enable,
disable or settings. Click on Disable-apply-ok. Make sure the box is ticked to disable pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached. RESTART COMPUTER.

If your Synaptics Touch Pad is missing from mouse settings please refer to this link to restore it.

How to Fix Synaptics TouchPad Settings Missing in Windows

Once the Synaptics Touch Pad driver is restored it should appear when you go back to Windows icon and scroll to find Synaptics, follow the information given to disable touch pad.
