Windows 10: not able to find storage device while reinstalling windows on my laptop.

I had an issue of bad sectors on my hard disk so did a low level formatting of the same. Now when i am using it to reinstall windows 10, it shows an error message "We couldn't find any drives. To get a storage driver, click load driver. This is an HP pavilion G6 -2005 AX laptop and runs on AMD chipset, and i tried uploading drivers in the browse option but to no use. It did not help. The system di dnot pick the latest drivers instead in compatible chart picked old windows 7 drivers. but still no storage drives available. The same issue persists. The hard disk worked fine when I tried installing windows on another laptop and using this hdd just to check if there is any issue with the disk, but it was working fine. I tried using another SSD installed with different windows 10, that drive appeared. I tried going forward and install windows 10 again on SSD but it showed error of MBR/GPT and did not install windows even on SSD.


I am not able to find IDE or AHCI options in the boot menu of the system and can't find a way to solve this issue. Please somebody help me,..!!

Reinstall Windows?

You don't need to reinstall windows. Go to the device manager and remove uninstall the processor and motherboard drivers listed. When you start the system back up you should be able to re-install the new ones. I just changed my mobo/processor Friday, everything is fine.

BTW I have seen some reviews that state practically no difference in using more than 2gb of ram.

 

Internal Storage devices being detected as removable devices

I would suggest you to update your storage controller driver.

Method 1: Update Storage Controller Driver

Follow the steps.

• Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Expand the Storage Controller.
• Right-click on the Storage controller Driver
  and select Update Driver Software.
• Wait for sometime and check if the issue persists.
• Restart your system.

Method 2: Uninstall and then reinstall Storage Controller driver from the Manufacturer's Website

Follow the steps.

• Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Expand the Storage Controller.
• Right-click on the Storage controller Driver
  and select Uninstall.
• Now, go to the Manufacturer's website and download the latest storage controller driver.
• Once the download is complete, double-click and run the setup file to complete installation.
• Restart your system.

VMware-usb storage device not recognized

I'm running Windows XP in Workstation Player on a Windows 10 laptop.

My USB CD/DVD drive is able to mount in the Player. So is a flash drive.

My Western Digital ssd (My Passport Ultra) is listed in "Removable devices", but fails to mount, giving this error:





In the Virtual Machine settings, the USB controller is using usb 2.0.

The WD ssd is compatible with usb 3.0 and 2.0, and is supported by Windows XP. My desktop computer running Win XP has no problem mounting the drive.

The device manager in virtual Win XP shows it as an "unknown device."

I've read everything I can find on the problem, and tried a number of suggestions from the knowledge base at VMware as well as solutions via google searches.

Perhaps the WD ssd just won't work on the free version of VM Workstation Player (v. 14).

Anyone have any suggestions?
