Windows 10: "Not able to read from source file or disk" problem even after chkdsk.

Hi,A few days back I posted a question regarding being not able to back up my data from my laptop to my hard disk. An error kept occurring during transfer of files and it read "not able to read from source file or disk". I enquired about it and I was suggested to run a chkdsk D: /f /r. I ran the chkdsk and it completed in 2 days and after that tried to copy my files. Although some files which were not being able to copy before got copied, I ran into the problem again. I don't know what to do now. I asked the same question in my previous thread of questions but didn't get a reply. can you pleas

Hi. I have been trying to back up some data from my laptop to my hard disk. The copy process stops midway and an error occurs which reads "Can't read from the source file or disk". I ran a chkdsk also but i stopped it at stage 4 because the files I was trying to copy went through the chkdsk process so I thought i would be able to copy it back. I have ran a virus scan also and there doesn't seem to be any problem. Should I restart the chkdsk process? If not what should i do?

Hi Dave, I have successfully run the chkdsk D: /f /r. Although it has helped with some files being able to copy but there's still an issue with some files not being able to copy. The error remains the same "Can't read from source file or disk". What should I do next?

Something prevent disk checking.

Please, run powershell (administrator), type chkdsk d: /f and press Enter.

I expect it suggests you to check drive during next reboot. Answer "yes" and reboot computer. Than try copying again.

My question:

What will happen if i type chkdsk d: /f?

Do I need to backup my files first? Will this command cause missing files?
