Windows 10: Not allowed to delete "windows.old" from my C:/ Drive.

I'm trying to delete Windows.old because it's taking a good chunk of my storage and I need that back. When I try to delete said folder, it asks for Admin permissions so I click "Continue" and hope it deletes. To my surprise, it says "You need permission to perform this action" and "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder" I only have one account on this laptop and it's the only one that has Administrator rights.

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.

Here is the step to remove that old email address.

Start typing an email address into the “To” field. As soon as you see the old email address being recommended as one of the potential candidates, use the down arrow key to scroll through the list of suggestions. Once you highlight the old email address, type the delete key. In many cases, this will actually remove the entry not only from the current list of suggestions but from future suggestions as well. You may even find that as you mouse over the drop-down list the highlighted item will have an “x” to explicitly allow you to delete it.

Just do this step and your good to go.

Need help with deleting windows on old drive.

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

When you install Windows 11 on the new drive, be sure the old drive is not connected to the PC during the installation, otherwise, the boot partition will be on the old drive.

Then when Windows 11 is installed on the new drive, connect the old drive and go to Disk Management.

On the new drive, be sure there is 3 partitions, the EFI partition, the C drive partition and the Recovery partition, this is important.

If you see those, you should be able to right click each partition on the old drive and choose Delete Volume (this will delete everything on that drive).

If you cannot delete those partitions

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd and on the resulting list, right click Command prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'.

Run this command and hit Enter:

diskpart

Run this command and hit Enter:

list disk

(Make note of the disk number you want to wipe and enter it into the next command - replace X)

Run this command and hit Enter:

select disk X

Run this command and hit Enter:

clean

Then close Command Prompt and you should then be able to create one large partition on that drive to use as a data drive.
