Not seeing Windows 10 October 2018 Update? Broader rollout to begin next week

Windows 10 October 2018 Update is now rolling out gradually to users across the world but the feature update may not show up on all PCs this week.

It’s important to understand that Microsoft is offering the October 2018 Update (version 1809) via Windows Update and the system will download the update automatically when it thinks your device is ready for a new adventure. When the new version of Windows 10 is ready for your PC, you will be notified beforehand and you would need to reboot the system to complete the installation.

“If you already have a Windows 10 PC and have automatic updates enabled, the update will be delivered to you when it’s ready for your machine,” explains Microsoft’s Jennifer Chen.

Microsoft says that the company uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve Windows 10 upgrade experience.

“Further, our artificial intelligence/ML-targeted rollout approach led to the lowest call and online support requests for any release of Windows 10,” explains John Cable, director of program management.

Unlike the cumulative updates, the release of feature updates like Windows 10 version 1809 takes place in stages. It appears that the broader rollout of Windows 10 October 2018 Update will begin next week, probably on Tuesday (October 9).

It’s worth noting that Microsoft is also expected to address some issues with Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) on Tuesday. That means if you’re already on Windows 10 October 2018 Update, you will receive a patch with several bug fixes and improvements on next Tuesday.

You can manually force Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Microsoft says that users can install Windows 10 October 2018 Update by simply checking for updates in Settings, or via Media Creation Tool or by downloading the ISO files.

It’s important to understand that Microsoft is blocking Windows 10 October 2018 Update on some Intel PCs that are running an incompatible or outdated driver. Microsoft says that the PC won’t download the update if you’ve incompatible drivers but if you ignore the warning and go ahead with the installation, you will experience unexpected issues. You can learn more about Windows 10 October 2018 Update and Intel driver issues here.

    Key takeaways

You would need to manually check for updates to download and install Windows 10 October 2018 Update right now. If the new OS version doesn’t show up in Windows Update on your PCs, you’re recommended to wait until the update is offered to your device.

But if you don’t want to wait any longer, you can download the Media Creation Tool and upgrade your PC.
