Windows 10: Not sure if Chrome or windows issue, Helvetica Neue font family replaced with weird outline...

See this example. This mostly shows up in Chrome, but I've seen it elsewhere within windows as well iirc. It's incredibly frustrating, I woudln't mind so much if it was a more legible replacement font. This is what I see on any websites using Helvetica :

Currently I get around the issue by using stylebot (chrome plugin) with a script that replaces everythign with arial. I'd love to get at the core of the issue

Windows 10 automatically applied Helvetica font to programs

Thanks for your reply, as I said, I've tried all the steps to revert it including the obvious Chrome font settings. But why would both browsers be affected if it wasn't Windows? It was DEFINITELY Windows 10, after a restart, I was able to exit all programs running in the background and then remove the stubborn Helvetica Neue Thin font. Another restart later, both Chrome and Firefox are back to normal.

 

Certain web fonts being replaced by random font from fonts folder

I'm running into an issue involving certain fonts being replaced by (seemingly) random fonts in the Windows fonts folder. This only appears to happen on websites with custom fonts in use, or custom formatting. E.g. only certain subreddits are effected, whilst others are not. The issue occurs in all browsers and remained after a complete uninstall/reinstall of Chrome.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:









I've tried deleting the fonts in question (not default Windows fonts) using command line method detailed here. This only resulted in a different font taking its place.

I also tried resetting Chrome's default font, and Chrome's settings generally, including the flushing out of cached images, files, cookies, etc.

Anyone know what might be going on here, and of any troubleshooting steps I can try, or a possible solution? Please help... These 1999 font choices are killing me.

I'm trying to install a set of Helvetica Neue fonts, but Windows 10 doesn't seem to recognize the file format?

What can I do to install OpenType font files on Windows 10?
