Windows 10: Notepad hangs at exit

    Notepad hangs at exit


    When I do not quit notepad before shutdown, Windows 11 prevents me from doing shutdown. After "cancel shutdown" and return to desktop, I find the notepad inactive. The only way to return to normal function is "end of task" in Task Manager Task is Notepad application.This seems to be an errorneous behaviour. How to cure it?Thanks in advance for hint/solution.Milos

    I suggest you to follow the steps provided below:

    • Open Task Manager. Here’s a tip: press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
    • Click on Startup tab.
    • Select Notepad from the list and click on Disable.

    I followed your suggestion but wasn't able to find Notepad listed on the startup. There are some listed as program but don't know which ones it could be.

    Notepad hangs at exit

    Notepad hangs

    Occasionally when I copy text in Notepad the document will "hang"....

    It will keep hanging until I "End task" and then I'll lose anything which I haven't saved.

    This can be incredibly frustrating - C'mon !

    Is there still no way around this ?

    Is there any way TO RESCUE a document which is in hang-mode ?

    It's a Windows 10 laptop which is (in a sense ?) running 7 ?
