Windows 10: Notepad is crashing

I don't recall Notepad freezing. Until trying to open a file related to mechanical work on my beat up old Audi Quattro. It did open and is massive with mostly encrypted strings. This 'was/is' such a simple wsyiwyg application it shouldn't freeze and by extension cascade into open windows locking, open applications slowing and/or freezing. I may have over run the capabilities on this desktop. Running 2 SSD drives, 2 hard drives with one split out in 2 450GB partitions. Machine is a Dell Inspiron 3670, Intel i5-8400 variable speed CPU, 12GB RAM not optane. Nothing in taskmanager is max or at u

I suggest you to follow the steps provided below:

• Open Task Manager. Here’s a tip: press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
• Click on Startup tab.
• Select Notepad from the list and click on Disable.

I followed your suggestion but wasn't able to find Notepad listed on the startup. There are some listed as program but don't know which ones it could be.

I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?
