Windows 10: Notepad Saved File turning into a Shortcut

Hello! This morning I was writing a story on Notepad so that I could copy-paste it onto a website to post it. When I saved the file before leaving I made a new folder in the documents folder, and saved it in there. Later on in the day, I went back to the folder to continue writing, to find that my file had been replaced by a 'New Shortcut', and when I tried to open it nothing would happen. I have been searching all over Google to find out how to get it back, I tried using a file restorer in case it had accidentally been deleted, but I can't figure out how to get it back. If you have any idea how to help, please let me know! By the way, during the time that I had left my computer restarted automatically to update, not sure if this would change anything, but I figured I would tell you just in case that was why my file is gone. Thanks!

Can't find saved NotePad in files

Possible that you accidentally save the files in a different file extension name.

In order for us to resolved your concern, we need to ask some information to isolate the issue.

1. How do you save the file in Notepad? It's better to provide the step by step procedure on how do you save the file.

2. How do you search your saved Notepad file?

3. Is it all files saved in Notepad that you cannot find after saving?

4. Are you getting an error message when you try to find the files saved in Notepad?

NotePad opens saved files minimized

All of my saved notepad txt files open minimized. How can I have them open
maximized?

I've already tried Type notepad in start menu search field> right click it> properties> shortcut tab> for the 'Run' option, select 'Maximized'. Apply> ok.
If I make a notepad shortcut on my desktop the shortcut will open maximized. It is the saved
txt files that will not open full screen.

You'd save the file to the Desktop if what you want to do is save a Notepad file to the Desktop location.

But if you want to save a shortcut to Notepad to the desktop, instead of simply right clicking it in the Apps list to Pin To Taskbar, then here's how:

Type Notepad in Start Search, right click result to Open File Location, right click on the Notepad file in the Explorer that opens and choose Send To: Desktop (shortcut).
